WEATHER was various threads

I'd be ok with that! The longer I'm in this part of the country where snow is as rare as hens' teeth the more I long for it. I'm not homesick per se, but I sure would like some variation in the weather. Hot+humid and hot+dry sure doe get tiring the more time passes!

I cranked 10 pairs of socks from Thursday evening to yesterday evening. I've got most of the toes closed but some need remedial work to even up my kitchener, and I have way too many ends to darn in!

I have some friends who live between Lenoir City and Louden. Their problem isn't snow, but flooding. They built their house "down th'holla", then had to hire a company to come in and jack it up on concrete blocks when they discovered their "holla" is a wet-weather floodplain.

I took one look at their plat map and suggested they dig into the south-facing hillside, but nooooo....they didn't want to climb all those stairs! :D

Noreen, My DH and I are in the process of trying to find a home in the Sevierville area. I'm from NY and he is a native Floridian. He has had it with the heat and hurricanes. Weeks without electricity which of course includes no AC in 90's weather. He is looking forward to some snow. He's only seen it once in his lifetime and would love to play with the dogs in it. I must say I miss it too sometimes. 6 feet - NO 6inches YES :)

Wolly I can understand your desire for "seasons" rather than wet and dry. This is the main thing that stops some folk from moving to our area - although we still get an influx od over 600 per month who come to live here - down from over a thousand a couple of years back God Bless Gwen

ah, but as a midwesterner, I'm quite familiar with getting three feet of the sXit on Easter, many times! We got spoiled those five winters in FL, and hate the cold now. Yes, I AM a wimp, and *proud* of it! Hugs, Noreen

Mmm,, I cannot ever understand anyone building in a "holla" - it is often done here until they realise that when the "dry" is over their "holla" becomes what the real estate agents like to call a " summer creek". God Bless Gwen

Here in Ohio we have had an unusually gorgeous April - a real spring! Most of the rain has happened during the nights so there have been many sunny days.

Now the lilacs are coming into bloom and that is one of my favorite scents. I've appreciated every minute of it.

Although I noticed with getting older and time going so much faster, that winter doesn't last nearly as long as it used to!

Oh dear Katherine!! I may complain about Manitoba weather, but you can have your Labrador weather thank you very much. It is 22 C here today, with more wind than I'd like, but the trees have leafed out, yesterday was even nicer. Some daffodils & tulips are up, and my delphiniums are up about 8"...... flowers to come in a few weeks (grin). I even cut the grass on the septic field yesterday! The forecast for this coming week isn't fabulous, but at least the snow is gone here, and hopefully we won't see it again until November.

Sending wishes for warmer weather your way...........

Thank you, Shelagh. According to the weather channel, we are also getting warmer weather this week. So the snow should disappear fairly soon.

This may be a question with a very simple answer, but whatever it is is eluding me just at present: what's a septic field? Working in nursing I've come across a sterile field (the area that's absolutely clean when doing dressings etc, but not a septic one Thanks Love & higs Christine

It's nothing to do with hospitals, Christine.

In fact it's part of a sewage disposal system in houses that are not attached to an actual sewer system.

you go - everything you never wanted to know about where stuff goes. LOL!

Yes I am adding mine as well. I just came in from the garden with a bunch of tulips. As Eimear said the sun was supposed to come out today and it did. We also had a lot of wind, and our deck is full with small little branches. I Started a pond in an old barrel, and now I better get fish as well, since I will not have a pump in it, only plants and fish. That means mosquito larva a plenty for the fish. Hope that the blue herrons, kingfishers, etc will stay far away from the fish.

Think warm and cozy thoughts Katherine.

Christine, a septic field is what you have when you are not able to hook up to a municipal sewer system. All your waste, and waters used in your house go into a underground tank out side the house. Because this tank is totally closed (at least ours is, it will create their own good bacterias to break this waste down. The liquid waste flows into a second tank and then through a largeunderground network of pipes, to drain into the ground. (has te be with very good drainage). The ground is the second part of cleaning this waste by being natures best filtering system. There are many different systems, and the newest, is now so good that the water that comes out on the other side is drinkable. These systems are really expensive, but are used more and more for the obvious reasons of keeping the envirnment clean.

I most likely gave a way to long answer, LOL Els

Els - regarding the darned herons, etc....... stretch some of that black netting over your barrel - you know, the kind some people drape over their cherry trees to keep the birds away. We have a slightly bigger pond in our front yard where we had herons fishing every year until we put the netting on the pond. You can hardly see it, and it makes the birds crazy. They won't land on it, and your fish don't become bird food. (smile)
