OT:Quick Cake Recipe Needed

Hi! Some time ago .... probably last Spring .... we had a recipe here for a very quick cake. It was made with a cake mix and a pie filling. We talked about chocolate mix with cherry filling. Does anyone recognize my description? If you have the recipe, please post or email it. Thanks bunches! PAT in VA/USA

The one I have is-

Chocolate Cherry Bars

1 package Extra Moist Devil's Food Cake Mix 2 eggs, beaten 1 can cherry pie filling (21 oz.) 1 teaspoon almond extract

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour 13X9 in. pan. In large bowl combine all ingredients. Stir until well blended. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 min. or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely. Spread top with ready made chocolate frosting.

Mine's the same as Leslie's but it says you can use devil's food cake mix or devil's food mix with pudding. Polly

Ah, ha! This does ring a bell. Didn't you give this recipe in the first place, Leslie? I seem to recall you added the pie filling in portions, so as to have chunkier cherry filling. I did it that way and loved it. I just needed the amounts and times. Thanks very much. PAT

Yep, you can play with this recipe. Once I made it with spice cake mix, apple pie filling, and caramel chips. Come to think of it, I added toll house chips to the chocolate version. Yummy! PAT

Yep- I used my electric mixer and put most of the 'cherry gravy' and just a few cherries in- and then very gently stirred in the balance of the cherries by hand. That way the cherries weren't all chopped up. I also added mini-chocolate chips to it.

Were you possibly thinking about a dump cake recipe? A friend served our ladies sewing group a Cherry-Pineapple Dump Cake that was a winner. Not exactly cake-y but delicious, and if you add ice cream or whipped cream, it's a little piece of Heaven.

2 cans (15 oz.) crushed pineapple in juice 2 cans (15 oz.) cherry pie filling (or whatever your favorite is) 1 box yellow cake mix (chocolate would work nicely, too) 1 cup butter 1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350=B0 F. Grease a 13x9x2 pan or baking dish. Dump the can of pineapple, including juice, into the greased pan. Pour the cherry pie filling over the pineapple, and spread evenly. Dump the dry cake mix over the top of the pie filling. Gently spread to cover. Slice butter into pats and layer on top of cake mix in pan. Cover with layer of nuts. Bake in preheated oven for approximately 45 to 60 minutes, or until brown. Cool cake completely in the pan.

I think the recipe would lend itself to all kinds of variations. Too bad it has such an unfortunate name.

I was talking about the fastest one where you stir a stick of butter into the cake mix and pile it on top of the cherry pie filling. Just depends on how fast Pat needs to go. Polly

I have to say this group is always really supportive but I think cake recipe helps seems to exceed most other types in speed and quantity. I guess there are priorities. : )

When I need a quick cake I just do a pineapple upside down cake. Something about cherries and chocolates that remind me of my grandma and that box of the waxy chocolate covered cherries she brought when she visited. Yuck. You guys need to eat my share of the cherry/choc. cake. I have a suspicion there will be a few baked in the next couple of days with all the talk of them. Taria

MMMMMM banana pudding. A friend brought me some a couple years ago after a hospital stay and it was fabulous. When I tried to make it, it was really ho hum. Do things just taste better when someone else makes it?

There are probably more ways to produce banana pudding than there are to make a log cabin quilt. The very simple recipe, the way that 'mama used to make it' will always bring back memories of good times together. Mama used the Jell-o vanilla pudding that you cook. She used Nabisco Nilla wafers. (They contain an artificial vanilla and there was a furor over that for years but that is what she used so I do.) She ripened her bananas in a brown paper bag for a couple of days so they would be just right, somewhere between too new and too ripe and ugly-looking. Mama's secret ingredient was ½ teaspoon of very fine vanilla stirred into the pudding after it was cooked. You don't want to be blasted by the vanilla, just a pleasant nuance. =) I don't know what's available to you in D but yesterday I paid $18 for 4 oz of vanilla. I thought I was going to faint dead away. Can you believe that price? Polly
