All In One Post

Thanks for the welcome backs! I'm just going to try to make this an "all-in-one" post,

Diana- It's funny you brought up the social phobe thing. I'm about to put it on a t-shirt and wear it out. LOL. I'm sure it'll get a few comments and kind of force me to talk to people!

Kathy- >>They're not looking at _you_, they're looking at their own reflections in the glass. Most people are way too self absorbed to even notice anyone else.

See that's the thing, we know that. I realize those thoughts are irrational, but I still have them anyway. Crazy. But I'm working on it.

Sarajane- Oh you are dead on about talking on the phone! I don't even like ordering pizzas. How crazy is that?!? As far as the catalogs go, I'm working my way around everywhere to order new ones. The only bad thing about that is waiting for them to get here!

Stef- Happy delurking to you! I tried to scoure the local thrift shops here, but I think people snatch the good things as soon as they come in. But I keep looking.

SOOZ!- Thank You!

Helen- Hmmm..8mm...I'm thinking that would be the right size, not sure though. I have some with the decorations on them, but they are bigger than I want. I want to be able to wear them all the time ('cept the shower) and big bracelets get in my way. What would you want for a swap? It might be possible.

I think that's all. Hopefully this stupid computer will get rid of it's hickups.

Later- Rachel

Watcha got? LOL! I love autumn colours, montana blue & olive/khaki-type colours, and I'm on the lookout at the mo for gold beads (as in glass/whatever, not metal) for mum's wedding jewellery... surprise me. It's getting late now (2.25am) but in the morning I'll sort out the wooden beads for you (they're in a big tub with all the other beads I know I won't use at the mo). Email me with your address and I'll get them ready to post.

Not crazy at all. I **hate** talking on the phone. I'm not sure why. I just..... *do*.

I figured out that part of my reluctance to use the phone comes from not being able to see the person Im talking to and seeing the expressions on their face. I like to be able to *read* their emotional responses. That and I am convinced I wont know what to say. Does that sound like it fits for you too? Diana

yes, that fits for me. What I dislike most is talking to machines. Most uncomfortable, I hate answering machines. Sarajane

I don't mind answering machines (or voicemail) at all -- but what *does* throw me is when I'm expecting the machine and a person answers! It's like I have to completely re-formulate what I was going to say, and it takes me a few seconds to adjust. Conversely, my most rambling machine messages happen when I thought the person I was calling would be there, and haven't set up the "leave a message" thing in my head.

Growing up with unpredictable parents and siblings (and children often are unpredictable), I had to learn to figure out what what expected of me. The gift this ofen gives is empathic understanding of others (so you know what's needed). The down side of that is thatit encourages us to please people in order to cope as children, and then we have to unlearn that to mature properly.

This is amplified for me by a tendency to be non-verbal, actually pre-verbal, even though sometimes I'm verbose.

You all are killing me. Carol doesn't like talking on the phone and the doc who I almost don't work for anymore doesn't like answering machines, and I can't understand either of those to be a problem, LOL.

Yes, definitely. And often, I don't know what to say right away - I have to think about it for a while. This is why email works really well for me. When it comes to calling for pizza, or calling to make appointments, etc. - I just don't like to. Funny, because when I was a teenager, I LOVED talking on the phone. But there was no email then (at least not in the average person's home), so I had no choice.

Once I get on the phone to someone, I am generally okay. It's the deciding to get on the phone that I have trouble with.

Oh, no kidding!! Me too. I usually sound something like this:

Um - this is Kandice Seeber.....and...ah... it's Tuesday at 3....and um...I was just calling to see if I could make an appointment.....let's see.....uh...tomorrow? Oh, my number is blah blah blah......and ....um.....okay, well, please call me!

For crying out loud. LOL

so last week, I am looking at the phone ad as I speak to the machine, and I leave them THEIR number. What kind of ditz do I sound like when I correct that on the message?

But hey, Gracie Allen got by, she even got famous for it. I'll survive, and if the RotoRooter guy got a laugh out of it, then good.

One of the things that makes me uncomfortable on the phone is that I can't see the physical cues. Actually, that's even worse on the computer...but I'm learning to be OK with that. Sarajane
