I feel so special!

Well, no longer an e-bay virgin and all that and now I just get a message I've got postitive feedback! Such a simple thing to get happy about but some days I need all the positivity (?) I can get. My life gets so hectic and negative at times. Now, if only I had an unlimited source of fundage! (every bead addict's wish, right?) Find the joy in the simple things in life and the rest will fall in place.

I was wrong. I have 2 positives. Double the oomph. And somehow DH has come up with a laptop computer that needs a screen that other than that works fine (he checked by hooking it up to this monitor) His brother gave him a router. Now, technically, all we have to do is come up with a monitor (I think) and I just might actually have my OWN COMPUTER (how long have I been talking about this?) Any happier and I'm going to have purple twinkies exiting bodily orifices. I guess my broken glasses were just a harbringer of good things to come!!!!

Later,

Helen C

Can you replace a screen on a laptop? Or would it be better just to do as we're thinking and hooking it up to a "real" monitor? Or is this just going to be too akweird? (yes, I know exactly how I spelled that)

Hey---your own computer!!!! Way cool, I want one this year too. Sharing with the whole family points out my less than patient parts.... Sarajane

Probably easier to just use a normal monitor, not to mention easier on the eyes.

I had my old lap top hooked up to a screen. It should work.

Amazing (if I do say so myself). I once had a contract making electronic forms for a company who only had Word Perfect as their standard program. It was challenging, but fun (and lucrative!).

Do you need help with something?

YES! DH keeps my computer updated with M$ regularly, since i'm using XP [which a pain in the backside]. suddenly, a few weeks ago, WP started refusing to import graphics - of any kind. i've done everything i can think of. ALL of my critical stuff is in WP - and i love it. but i CANNOT get it to import ANY graphic - not jpg, not gif, nothing.

i followed the instructions on the Corel site - nothing.

i even totally deleted the program, defragged the hard drive, and reinstalled it. still nothing.

[i'm using WP9]

It sounds like it is an incompatability with the latest Microsoft update. I hate to say it, but re-installing Windows is probably the best place to start. (Please don't kill me)

So, I have two hard core gaming children, I'm doing desktop publishing AND web work, my DH does digital music and editing and #1 son wants to edit movies. This is why there's a line at the computer on school vacations.... I AM the "tech help", scary as that is; I'm what my sister refers to professionally as "The Hepl Desk". So is she, at a downtown firm--I help her with graphic program issues, she helps me with Word and Acess and so on...its good to have resources on which to call!!

I'm practicing patience....I hope to get a royalty check some day and buy a different computer just for me and a digital camera to go with it. That'll be what I need to do the next several paying projects---technology is finally cost effective enough to get what I need and still (maybe) eat. However, magazines pay AFTER publication (sometimes by months) and Books do royalties a month after the close of the quarter---which means they wait till the 3'st of the month and then cut a check...so there's a LOT of patience and waiting involved, I get paid 4 times a year, and have NO idea how much is coming. NOT a good deal if you want security and routine---so its good I know how to do without it! Sarajane

Many versions of Linux are free, and there is plenty of really good freeware to use with it. As you probably know, I use Macs here at home, and OSX is simply a skin over a Linux base.
