Making some major revisions to my website

I have just started what may be a futal attempt to go through some of the PICs on my computer to update and organize my website. Unfortunately, last year my other computer was zapped by lightning and the modem was fried. So all those files are up in my son's room, and lord knows if I will get them copied and moved into this computer in my lifetime :o(

now, I would like some honest critiques to the few pages I haveupdated and organized. Any realistic constructive criticism willencourage me to make improvements, within reason of coarse. Thanksfor any tips or suggestions. Dar Jean (ACJewels) P.S. I also have some fun news to share. I will be teaching four classes next month at the local craft shop.

One let me say the beads and pendants are amazing. I would have placed an order with you tonight if I knew what prices were up front. :o)

That is among the very first thing that pops out at me. In order to find a price, I have to add an item to my cart. I like to be able to know what the price is first. Putting prices below or above the shopping cart link would be nice. Also I like to know how much shipping is before the end of an order, and I go through all the trouble. Setting a fixed shipping fee helps with this. Or at least listing something like 1 item to 5 items for x amt shipping.

The last picture on the FOR SALE page links to a different picture for the close up.

Once I was on the For Sale page I had to go back to the home page, before I could go on to look at another page. Is it possible to place a menu of some sort on all your pages, so it makes navigation easier?

Another thing is that the pages are not all the same theme. They have different backgrounds. The only thing that let me know I was still on your site was the

*home page* button. Those butons also stick out a bit from any of your page themes. If I can help getting you a theme for your site let me know, I live for this stuff, even though I am not the greatest, I do try.

Placing your items or pictures in a table may help to line them up more evenly. Just a thought.

Every bead and pendant on your page is so colorful and beautiful. You just need something less eye catching for the backgrounds and pages, something consistant as to not draw the customers eyes from your work. You want people to see what it is you do, and I don't blame you, you do some very very pretty work. Just need to work on some kind of theme and stay with it.

:) You have lovely work! This is a critique of the website, and of course, not of the beads. Their wonderful!!

  1. The colors on your main page are really nice. If I were you, I would make them uniform all over the site. Changing backgrounds can sometimes confuse people and isn't as pleasing to the eye. Personally, I would also change the color of the left border to match the color of the banner at the top, and then have all of the pages match. You might also change the link text color on the buttons - they are blue, and that really doesn't match the rest of the page - it appears slightly hard on the eyes.

  1. The layout of the main page is really nice, and the rest of the site should match the layout on the main page, for continuity. You don't want to distract your buyers by changing things up too much.

  2. Some of your bead pics are skewed. Especially on the beads for sale page. When you are placing your pictures, and specifying the width and height, make sure the ratio stays the same as the original pic. Otherwise the beads appear skinnier or shorter than they really are. Also, some bead pics lead to the wrong bead - i.e., the last pic on your Polymer Clay Pendants & Bead Sets page leads to a pic of the bead set above. It also needs to have the height increased. I hope this makes sense!

  1. Show your prices!!!

  2. Damn, your beads are stunning!!!

I hope this helps. :)

I LOVED the pendants page. It loaded very, very slowly on my computer (which is very old).

Hi Linx. Thank you so much for your input. I have made some revisions that you suggested. Let me know if the update is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and easier to navigate. I have more work to do, however, I think it is starting to look more organized.

Thank you Kandice for all your encouraging words and suggestions. I did find a better sidebar to match the background better, and made sure the top bar coordinated with the sidebar. I have changed a couple of pages to match, except the beads page which has to be moved over in order to add the links on the left to match the other pages.

I really appreciate the suggestions. It made me realize I needed to use more uniformity on the web site. Let me know what you think of the changes. Thanks, D.Jean (ACJewels)

Thank you Becki. I thought about making the pendants photos smaller, like a thumbnail; then I would need to link to each picture to show them enlarged, which would require more work and time to set up all those extra links. I may reduce them a little. I think if I reduce them too much they won't look as detailed.

I have made some revisions to all the pages, including the pendants. I made them more even in size and arranged them more neatly. D.Jean (ACJewels)

Crystal: I came, I saw and I bought...have you mailed them yet?! LOL!

One point that is driving me mad is the quote on your home page:

"Please respect the artist by not duplicating their work."

You are a "her" not a their. People do this with businesses all the time. "I went to Target and they were out of XXXX". It should be I went to Target and it was out of...."

Your statement should read "Please.....by not duplicating her work".

Love seeing the prices up front. When I bought them, I just clicked on the cart, knowing that paypal lets me remove any item.

Can't wait to get them!!!

Hi Lisa: I just fixed the incorrect phrase to read as you said. Thank you so much for letting me know. And thank you for your purchase. I just packaged the items yesterday (I wrap extra layers for safe shipping). They will be mailed today. I also put some more information on the page with the sale items and included the prices. Thanks so much again. >^._.^< D.Jean (ACJewels)

I'm guessing you want this:

No material, words, or photos are to be copied from this website with permission of the owner

to say 'without' :-)

And sorry for violating the request in order to point out the correction.

No problem. The matching theme is much better on the eyes. I still see a few skewed pictures, but you can work those out later as you have time. And the prices up front is fantastic! I already see somethign i want. I will have to go did in my piggy jar and see what I have :o) Got to play it safe I have a road trip coming up, but I know I want something from you.
