OT - Honey, I'm home!

I'm officially back from CA. My son is officially home on leave from boot camp. I know he's been here. The refrigerator is empty. I just spent 125.00 at the grocery store and have nothing to show for it. I waded thru 2500+ messages in this group alone. (OK, so I just deleted most of them........). I sorted out a 14" high stack of mail and paid the bills. My suitcases are finally empty. *So when do I get time to get back into the studio!!!* I did find time to order 450.00 worth of glass and frit today....Please mommy, when can I go out and Play! Still have about 15 hours worth of paperwork sitting on my desk................ And a new bead store has opened in St. Louis. Large. Lots of stuff. Far more expensive than wholesale rates, of course, but very handy for when I need one or 2 little things NOW. I found it while coming back from the doctor's office. Something good came from being less than well!!! After 1 AM........maybe I should go to bed............. wanna go play. I have 5 pages of notes I made on the plane for new things I want to make. What good is a rejuvenating vacation if you get so worn out playing catch-up when you get home that you don't have the time or energy to bring any of those great ideas to life! Snarl, growl........whimper..... Barbara Dream Master

Come to my house. I have inherited my grandparents' habit of having a fully stocked grocery store in the house. Bob has this strange Italian propensity to keep 25 different kinds of pasta in the pantry at all time, plus at least a case of every ingredient necessary to make sauce. (In case there's some horrible tragedy that befalls tomatoes and cheese, maybe) In my grandparents' case, I can understand - after the war, they went hungry for a long, long time. Even if they'd had money, there wasn't anything to buy. Heck, even at 90, Opa still grows a good sized plot of potatoes, "just in case."

But I live 1/10 of a mile from a large, fully stocked supermarket. I have money, and it's open 24 hours a day. As far as I know, no one has ever gone hungry in this house. But still, the pantry and freezer are full all the time.

The only concrete benefit from our strange habit is that we spend very little on groceries. We have all our basics in stock all the time, and buy supermarket loss leaders in quantity. We rarely pay full price for anything in the pantry. Unless of course, we're out of rigatoni or ziti (with lines)

-can't be without any particular shape of pasta for a moment, no siree. What if there were an emergency that could only be solved by linguine or cappelini? Kathy N-V

P.S.: As I was getting dressed today, I commented to Bob that I am feeling very Ruebenesque today. Not Ruebenesque as in a voluptuous angel, but more like Ruben in American Idol, in that I should have a 205 across my chest, because I'm as big as an area code. Bob told me that I should knock it off, and that I'm nowhere near that big. I conceded that maybe 205 was off the mark, but that I'm a 401 at the very least. He stuck his tongue out at me.

(205 = area code for Alabama, 401 = area code for Rhode Island)

He's always been that way. A pound of room temp. steak lightly seared on each side is his favorite appetizer. Barbara Dream Master
