OT: Pouting and self-pity

Those of you with serious health problems and with tragic family situations shouldn't read on.

I had my hand surgery last Friday. The carpal tunnel part of it went well, and is coming along just fine. The surgeon also repaired some serious tendonitis problems in my middle (trigger) finger and also found a small cyst, which he removed. It hurts like holy hell!!! And I'm really ticked off because I've got all these neat designs in my head that I want to start working on, and had planned on being able to start on them this weekend. No way. Looks like it might be a whole lot longer. I can bend all my fingers except the middle one. Crap...

That's all. It hurts to type but I just wanted to whine a bit. Thanks for listening.

Carlina -- I am sorry you are in pain, but it sounds like the good news is that your hand is going to work MUCH better than before!!! Did you not think it was going to take time to heal? Healing and rest are good things! Take advantage of them while you have them!

Well, I make a lousy patient. I only planned on 1 week of inactivity. I don't have any patience with myself. LOL Carlinda

1 week? neee-uh-uh. Perhaps think of it this way...the longer you heal and rest, the more time you have to design in your head, and the better the pieces will look when you DO begin to do them.

Good luck being patient with yourself, and I'm glad the surgery went well!

You go ahead and whine. I don't know how you feel, but I know what surgery is like. It totally sucks.

Carlinda, Just concentrate on getting better and reward yourself with something great! If it helps any, I worked in orthopedics for many years and we did tons of CT and trigger finger surgery. They all turned out great with very few exceptions. It just takes a little time and you will be as good as new!

I've always dreaded not being able to use my hands.

had a bout of tendonitis in my middle finger about a year and a half ago... luckily - two shots of cortisone cleared MOST of it up-... the rest has been "rationing" the use of that hand - and backing off when it bothers me, aspirin, and ice... (flare up wasn't from art work - but from typing all the work on the damned appellate brief for second year law writing class... arggggh)

REST and let your hand HEAL -- get doc's permission before you start doing anything...

glad the "worst part" is really over for you though - surgeries scare hell out of me..

Oh no, your driving finger! That's your most important finger - you wouldn't be able to get your car out of the driveway here in Boston without it. I'd be really upset, too.

Feel better, and if it wasn't your writing hand that was affected, I suggest sketching your ideas in a notebook for later use.

Bwhahahaha. I used to think I could set time limits for healing. Your body heals when it does - trying to fight it makes the recovery period that much longer.

Since it is your driving finger though, I suggest that you practice swearing loudly and often. Take some of the strain off your hand.

It is my right hand, and I am right-handed. So I can't sketch anything. Of course, I couldn't sketch anything anyway! In the grand scheme of things, it's really no big deal. And, as a friend told me once, if you want sympathy it's in the dictionary, between shit and syphilis.

Thanks all for your kind words. I'll get over this, it's just aggravating to have to ask my 85 year old mom to cut my meat for me. And she's embarrassed to be seen with me while I'm flipping everyone the bird! LOL

oh heck. What are moms for? Nows a good time to practice all those other things there's never time for. You know, like meditation and visualization. Maybe stomach crunches. Nah....forget that. :) Cheri (Bubbee to Emily and Nathan)
