OT: Spike's Excellent Adventure

We're lucky to live about 10 miles from a state park, so we went up there to canoe and cook out afterwards. It was a great day for it.

Spike was a little nervous, the first few minutes, but then settled right in. I could tell he was comfortable when he sat down in the canoe, instead of standing. Hubby was paddling in the back, and I was in the front, and DD and Spike sat in the middle. At first, he liked being able to take a drink anytime he wanted. Then, it was fun to lazily bite at the ripples in the water. After that, he decided he liked the feel of the water going through his mouth, so he'd hang his head over the side, with his mouth open. (I wonder if he was hoping to catch a fish for a snack.)

EXCELLENT!!!....I have been kayaking a lot now, and want to take my dog in the WORST way, but unfortunately the lake doesn't allow dogs on the water, or within 50 feet of the shore (it's a drinking water source)...

I don't think I could coax my 60 lb dog into the kayak at the beach, she mostly hates waves and "loud" water!

I wanna spike!

How would you get a dog in a kayak? I thought they're kind of a one person vessel?

I had to lift Spike into the canoe, but I think he'll get better about that. He's not quite 60 lbs, more like 56. I'd much prefer him to get in on his own next time!

Some days I really want his life! Hubby used to say that when he died, he wanted to come back as one of my dogs. Lol.

my kayak is a sit upon, and there's quite a bit of room in front of me, and between my legs. It's a pipe dream for me, tho, cause Sadie hates oceans, and would prolly freak out and roll us both into the briney blue! LOL

(whadda visual THAT IS!!)

Hey! I've heard that as well. Sophie certainly has a very nice life

- she has me almost perfectly trained.

BTW, I love Spike. I can just picture him with his mouth in the water. So cute.

I'm trying to figure out if I could make a Spike bead in a canoe! (I'd probably break it.)

Spike had a slumber party last night. His friend's Winnie and Sammy are here because their dad is having a test at the hospital today.

That was suppose to be "friends", as in plural! Sheesh. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

Man, I've heard that before! But I no longer want to come back as my own dog (hmmm...how would that even be possible?!?). I want to come back as one of Jerri's dogs. Definitely. ~~ Sooz
