OT: Yoooo Hooooo!!!! Read Me!! ( Stopping In For A Visit)

Its one of my big ones but I do have a limited range I can drive comfortably and its getting bigger, slowly. I do like that little freedom I can give myself. The phone however.. blech. Isnt it interesting how different SPs have their specific trouble areas? Diana

Hopefully this works this time...

Anyhoo..It works like this....Some SP can eat, drink, and go to the bathroom in public places. Others can't. Some are ok in public places as long as someone familiar is with them. Others don't go out in public.

You feel like you're being judged/criticized by people you don't know. BUT! In the back of a SP's mind, they realize that it's completely irrational to think like this. They WANT to go out and enjoy things like going to dinner, going to a bar, etc. For some reason, though, their brain sends these thoughts and it's hard to ignore them.

Me, for example, I clam up around people I don't know. I'd LIKE to make small talk, but I'm always afraid in the back of my mind that I'm going to say something stupid.

I don't like to order take out because I'm always thinking that if I screw up the order, the person on the other end is going to go off about me when I hang up the phone. Or that I've irritated them. Even though I know that the person has far more things on their mind than to bad mouth me.

Personally, I'm just going to have to get into the "I don't care" mode and be more assertive. In the appropriate situations, of course.

Bingo, Diana.

I guess we just have to be able to catch ourselves thinking this way before it gets out of hand.

Now me, I don't mind driving, just not in rush hour traffic. No way. I turn into major road rage! And the highway-not unless it's absolutely necessary.

If you could put in just ONE Friday evening answering the phones at a pizza place, you would burn that fear out....Having done that job, let me tell you we on the service end want to: A) hear your order over the screaming kids and barking dog in the background AND the guy at the counter saying "MISS!! Can you take my order first?" tho he can plainly see we're using the phone... B) repeat it back correctly so YOU don't yell at US C) get done quick so that the other three phone lines get answered and we get all the pies out the door; there's an hour and a half till breaktime and I'm gonna fall over if I don't get to finish my 7up....(you the customer come into it all very little.)

Also, here's a take out industry secret-- we never cracked on the customers after hanging up--only on the idiot boyfriends/girlfriends of other workers that called. Sarajane

Not a chance. We'd all be too busy examining each other's beadwork to be socially anxious!

Rachel -- send me your snail mail, I have wooden beads and I even know where they are (I am all packed now).

Sooz, anxiety levels do have to do with seretonin levels (among other stuff), and that's determined partly by melatonin produced by sunlight. Blondes have fairer skin as a rule, and often have blue eyes---more radiation from the sun gets in. So it could be a factor---wouldn't it be funny if there was a biochemical basis as well as a behavioral bias for "blondes have more fun"?

Got the truck loaded yet? I've been thinking about the roads to the ranch... you may want to plan your trip to come down through Paso Robles and Atascadero (Hwy101), then go east on 58. Fewer hairpin turns that way than going west off I-5. Besides, it's mostly ugly oilfields coming west until you get to "cow country"-- then it's acres of scrubby weeds.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on

Fair complected people definitely have different chemical responses. Some kinds of drugs, like ones to freeze the eyes to examine them, effect me for about 3 times as long. Most drugs side effects have a very long half life for me, so I can't take as much anti-depressants as most people, or as much as I need. Melatonin leaves me groggy for at least 12 hours.

And I do have fun, even though my hair is no longer blonde.

I've been thinking about your upcoming departure date too. Exciting, and only a little scary. I think you'll just love the West Coast.

I can't tell you how many people tell me that they're surprised that I'm blonde when they meet me IRL. It was wonderful when I was a pretty young thing, because I could switch back and forth from "bubblehead blonde" to "National Merit Scholar" in an instant. Geez, I never pumped my own gas, changed a tire or lifted anything heavy unless I felt like it. (Little did those big strong men know that I could rebuild an engine with my eyes shut, and not even break a nail doing it)

It appears that DD is going be able to have the same fun - blonde, busty, and brainy. hehehehehe. Poor Bob.
