Pricing

I took my BFNR necklace to my computer class. The tutor thought it magnificent and wanted to buy it for his wife. I said no way because it means so much to me.

However I am making something similar just need to finish the neck band and put a clasp on it.

I would like your opinions on what I should charge for it.

Su of Tillerman beads has set me up with a page to put the pictures on.

I do not wish to sell cheaply so as to undermine any other jewellery sellers

Thanks Shirley

Shirley,

I have no clue what the cost of the materials you used is, but if you price the necklace at: 4 x (cost of materials) + 2 x (number of hours x rate per hour) you will not be seriously undercutting other jewelry makers.

Jewelry artists here charge between $12.00 and $25.00 an hour for their labor, I think, depending on a gazillion factors.

Hope this helps,

Georgia

I usually charge my state's minimum wage (which is $5.15 an hour) when it comes to my per hour rate. But I do raise that price if it's a really difficult or intricate piece..usually to about $10 or $12 an hour.

Thank you for your kind words. I am still awaiting a clasp to put on it, it needs to be quite hefty to hold the weight.

Yes, Su is a treasure to do that for me.

Thank you to everybody who as replied I much appreciate it. Shirley

Minimum wage is $6.25 here, and I'm not sure I always get that when I sell wholesale (haven't in a while, I think I do get that when I sell retail, but only if I don't count the time I sit at the market selling nothing) - it's hard to time picking out naturally different Job's Tears to pair for earrings, with which I also have the problem of what to charge as 'cost of materials' because to me that again involves more labor than anything else ...

Thanks Kalera. It is now finished and a bracelet and earrings to match.

I rather think the price is too high, but be blowed if I am going to let them go for cost. Hugs Shirley
