Stick pearls sources?

Linda's made me see stick pearls in a whole new light. So now I'm thinking of new ways to use them.....she broke my block.

Now I need to buy more of them. But the LBS sells them for shriek-inducing prices. Do you guys have any great sources for these pretties?

Thank you in advance. ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

I'm one of the few (rare?) people who has always had good success with FireMountainGems Their recent supplement to their catalog had strands of stick pearls (drilled either vertically or horizontally) in the $20 - $60 range (for A and B grade). I've always been very satisfied with the pearls I've bought there, but I haven't bought any of these yet.

[You can go to their website and do a product search for pearls:

I can get wholesale at Ayla's Originals. Once my Blink Watchface buy is over, I could organize a pearl buy just for RCB folks.

Oh, see, I am virulently against Fire Mountain as a source......I would not buy from them if they were the last supplier on earth. (I'd start buying thrift shop and garage sale stuff and redoing them instead.) So, thanks anyway, Susan.

Ayla's is good, so is Talisman. Much better prices at shows than online, though.

I found the wholesale prices online to be comparable to what I paid at the B&B show. Maybe they do better for Tuscon, but that's not an option for me this year (again). Someday... B.

Can't help you with a source, Sooz... I bought mine from a seller in China through eBay, but unfortunately they're not a registered seller anymore. I won the 16 inch strand of 25-30mm stick pearls for $32.00. Of course, they had it made into a necklace with a cheapo gold plated clasp, so I just took it apart and used it. :)

So you could check out the Chinese sellers on eBay. I've purchased from a lot of sellers who live in China and Thailand, etc. and so far (knock on wood), I haven't had any problems getting my purchases in a very timely manner. One seller in Thailand even got my win to me in 8 days!

Have fun creating with those puppies when you do get some. :))))

Oh crud. I have no money for beloved pearls. I'm still klunking from the pearl bracelet I received. The head can't take much more.

Where's MJ? She got me some AWESOME stick pearls a couple of years ago....

If you buy from Ayla's be sure you hand-pick....I see them at almost every show, and I'm never impressed. Talisman has better quality, IMO.

NODDDDDDING vigorously!

It's funny. I got to know Naomi (Talisman's owner) pretty well when I was doing Intergalactic shows back east. Got to the point where she would see me and just smirk. I'd swear up and down that my checkbook was locked away, the dog ate my debit card, etc etc...and no matter what I'd STILL end up spending at least $200 with her by the end of a weekend. I miss her terribly. Having her just a few steps away last Tucson was like the best drugs imaginable. (except for my cashbox)

The only bead show I've been too got a good chunk of change from me at the pearl tables. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to refrain either.

Do a Google search in rec.crafts.beads with the keywords Fire Mountain Sooz and see. Ive never done business with them. There are plenty of other places to buy from and given the collective experiences reported here, I think Ill pass. Diana
