To the Lampworkers (in particular)--"catching" colors

I'm doing a lot of in & out today, the humidity's high and I need to take breathers between beads. Blech, I moved from PA to get away from this!

Anyway....ever sit at the torch, winding a bead, and whatever color you're working with changes into something really cool? But you KNOW it won't stay that way when it cools. I was just making a bead with Lauscha wedgewood blue and it turned this beautiful worn denim-y mix when it got hot. And then went away. I'm just whining out loud, but I wish there was a way to "hold" those color changes. Same with petroleum green, dark ivory and copper green. No fair!

I'm hoping the Red Max will work well with an OG-15 and natural gas. I think that would be a great torch to help me scratch my big glass itch. And it looks SOOOOOOOOOOO wicked! Like a ray gun or something. I like that. :-) Perfect torch for Dr. Princess Buttercup von Tinkenstein, don't you think? I'm figuring I'll go with the premix top. I like the idea of changeable tips, and it comes with two.

The best price I've found is Sundance, where it's marked at $450. Just a wee bit more than a Lynx. Not a huge Sundance fan, personally, but I think that's the place that also has the crucible kiln that I want.

Absolutely get the premix!!!! There are moments I miss having a Minor around, but they don't stack up to the times I'm SO glad I have the premix. It's the "bestest" thing for detail work on larger beads, wonderful for point-flashing color pools with boro, and the larger tip mimics a Minor pretty well.

Check with my boys at Wale on the crucible kiln, if you haven't already. They have a darned nice selection of kilns and other "big boy" stuff.

Ok. Let's try this: I'm going to build a heating chamber (glory hole) myself at some point in time, but until then I will buy one that is already made so I have one to use that will work.
