Awwww, the poor thing.....

Well, you shouldn't talk about something you don't know. Because she has posted openly in another group why paying for something when you have it for free. If someone doesn't want to sign up, that's fine. But you don't have to give others the indication not to do it either. I don't have to defend that I'm building a business, and I have put very hard work into getting published regularly with a very reputable magazine.

This is not a nasty remark, I have seen enough attacks in the RCTN to know one. I do remember the latest one on Helga Mandl, which was nasty. I can understand that constant advertising is a problem, but it is also not right to ridicule someone so much and laugh about that person.

To make it perfectly clear - I have not and won't force anyone into a class. It is completely voluntarily, as everything. It's also not sour grapes. I have people signing up. My post rather indicated, that most in here jump much more quickly on anything off topic. This has never been the case years ago.

I'm over it.

But you should not have suddenly launched invective about posters in general not responding to YOUR posts about a class etc. So you have posted your site, you have posted your classes, if nobody responds, you need to get over it !

If I went in real time into a shop and looked at things then started to leave and the shop owner started telling me off for not purchasing, what do you think I would do ? It definitely would not be to sign up or buy anything ! Very bad marketing techniques.

And the best thing that you could do, if you viewed the situation in that manner, is take the high ground. Nobody's perfect here. Let's cut a little slack.

No, sorry Diane. Not only did we have her going after us, but when we reacted we had you telling us we were vile for doing so !

Following example on this thread and top posting. Also posting late cause I've been away for a few days. I read more than post but this steams me. I went to your website and looked at the hardanger class. It looks very interesting and I might do a class another time. I have enough on my plate now.

I do read RCTN very often and since I have a good internet connection I read both on and off topic threads. As others may have already said, sewing circles are important. Not all of us can actually go to a sew-in. This does for me and I weigh in when I can say something other than 'me too' This time I don't care if it is a me too.

You do have a lovely web site and I looked around but did not post a reply about it. I do like your class piece but am teaching myself so far.

Allow us to enjoy and share life with the rest of the world. How many can say they 'talk' to stitchers all over the world?

Now this is an endearing way to start off

Because she has

What happens in another group should stay there.

If someone doesn't want to sign up, that's fine. But you don't have to

Got news for you. Other people are thinking the same thing. The only difference is she had the balls to say it. And newsgroups are arenas for discussion, not just for promoting your business. Sounds like you don't make the distinction.

I don't have to defend that

Yes it was. The only reason it doesn't seem nasty to you is because you made it.

I have seen enough attacks in the RCTN to know

I do remember the latest one on Helga Mandl, which was nasty.

The scissors case lady? The one who was told not to advertise on this group?

I can

She was ridiculed because she came back and said something nasty in Serbo Croat or Romanian or some other middle European language. You obviously think that's OK and we should take it because she's a designer. So you're saying we should put up with any crap that comes along if the person has sold a few kits on the internet. Sounds like a good deal. I should be a designer too.

That's correct. And you should remember that before you alienate people.

It's also not sour grapes. II

I posted on this group once in the golden era you're talking about. It was an innoculous post. All I said was that a particular design was nice, and that remark was ridiculed. So don't tell me they were any better than the people here are now. I didn't come back for another 10 years.

There are a lot of groups on Usenet on which no one posts. Mostly because they put up with people who thought they had the right to disrupt, or the right to market themselves incessantly. This group is to be congratulated for surviving. No this groups isn't what it was 10 years ago. Nothing vital stays the same. If it survives another 10 years it will be something else completely different again. And by the way, you can't be a fossil and change at the same time.

Good for you Mary, for saying what I was thinking.

Ah, that's a tad melodramatic. I never even came close to calling anyone vile.

HMMM, why in the world do you think I am talking about something I don't know about??? I read what you posted TO THIS GROUP and it was mean and uncalled for. WHY, pray tell, are you posting here about things that happened in "another group". If you want to argue the point of what was said in another group, then go there and argue away. What you posted HERE was mean and uncalled for. Remember, not all of us read that other group. I don't give a rat's behind what Cathy might have said in the other group -- here she didn't say anything to deserve the response she got from you. And if you were "over it" why do you continue to "discuss" the fine points.

Hah - just for that....I'm posting something about sports. In short - the state soccer AAA championship was won by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Which is a premier Sci-Tech magnet school in the country. They haven't won any sports anything in nearly 25 years - since becoming a magnet specialty school. There were a couple of great articles about this in the Washington Post last Friday and Saturday. The opening paragraph on one says it all in that the goalie who carried them forward in a huge unbeaten streak was the back-up guy, who got the job beause the starting goalie poked himself in the eye with a pencil while taking a test . How perfect. Anyhow - the goddaughter of the prom adventures goes to school there. Their prom was Friday night, the finals on Sat. These kids were so excited that her entire group - who stayed at a couple of houses post-prom, got up at 6 a.m. And then drove down to the Tidewater Area of Virginia to be at the finals held at Christopher Newport College - a good 4 hours at least. Amazing. OK - sports blurb over. Kind of a geeks can play, too thing.
