Exactly. I don't get it either. What I've seen of this behavior from other industries (tabletop RPGs, specificially), is that the folks that make the copies will NEVER pay for it, no matter how difficult you make it for them. The fact is they're NOT part of the "market" and they're more interested in taking advantage of things than in the actual designs.

As far as I can tell, the pattern stealers aren't interested in ever buying them. No matter how low the cost is, how easy they are to get, or, how hard to copy you make it to copy them, they just never buy it. They'll move on to something else instead. I don't understand it either, but I've seen the same behavior among tabletop RPGs. People would rather pay to have a copy store print out their stolen book than pay a bit more and buy the actual thing (with no OCR errors!). I don't get the behavior at all.

I freely admit that I have quite a few 'illegal' copies of RPG manuals. Lugging a stack of book around to every session gets incredibly tiresome.

Guess what? 90% of them are duplicates of stuff I already have, and the other 10% I obtained to evaluate before I considered buying the supplement in print. Most of the time, I didn't...but that's more of an issue of the quality of mainstream supplements having gone to the shitter lately.

Which reminds me...I ought to delete that 10% while I'm thinking of it and free up some hard drive space.
