Firehouse Angel Framing Status

I love that you are all framing the piece, and I am not criticizing, but please be aware you are hanging this is a very masculine area and I do think lavender mat's with fillet and fru fru is appropriate.

I like navy blue with purple as the under mat because the colors that are worn in remembrance are black and purple. Navy isn't black, but lavender is just too feminine.

This is just a suggestion and not meant to start another of the wars.

Of course, whomever is putting this together has to see if these colors even work. So many times we think something will be appropriate, only to find out upon actually using them that it's a horrid combination. I will say, I like your thoughts.

My opinion is that for this very ornate piece, less is more and putting it into a simple but elegant gold frame, with subdued matting, would be enough and would allow the eye to go to the angel and not to the frame.

The more plain the framing, the better.

Not that I have any say whatsoever in any of this, but after taking a look at all the options I agree with both Lucille and Victoria....plain is better.

I think to spend upwards of $300 to $400 is unnecessary.

Well, I TRIED every shade of purple or lilac on that blue fabric and none of them looked right! Very frustrating for MOI since I love any shade of purple. We also tried different blues but had the same problem

-- nothing seemed right with that odd fabric color! NOW I know why MLI didn't use any mat when she had the piece framed!! As for frou-frou, I don't think it will be too big a problem with the piece hanging in the Headquarters Building -- we assume. If it was going into one of the firehouses, for sure there wouldn't be any frou-frou. I HATE frou-frou and started off not wanting any sort of frame with that curvy stuff. I was outnumbered on that one and had to agree that the Angel does look better with a bit of an ornate frame. Nothing too outrageous, just some sort of standard "squirrley" stuff :-)! This is what I thought but it didn't look right when I added the mat!! The frame that I put with NO mat is fairly simple -- has a bit of matte gilt stuff at the outer edge and again at the inner edge and just some sort of brown color in the center. The minute I added *any* mat, the plain frame actually detracted from the piece! I'm a firm believer in plain, simple frames and it was quite a shock for me to realize that the framers AND my needlework friends were right when they nudged me to the fancier frames -- not ornate but far fancier than I had wanted when I started on this quest. Also let me tell everyone that it's my understanding that the framing discussions we had months ago ended up in most people wanting two mats and a fancier frame. I'm the one who has chosen to add the fillet frame. To me, it sort of sets the Angel apart from the fancier frame on the outside and draws the eye in to the exquisite face of the Angel. Each time, the framer, Needlework friends & DH have agreed or it would NOT have been included! One of the benefits of getting all of the different framing options is so that people can voice their opinion. If a bunch of people think the frames I have chosen are too fancy, PLEASE let me know and I will see what works that is muck simpler :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

**SEEMED** to be fancy without getting too ornate. Trust me, I have had to tell some of these framers that the frame they wanted to put on the piece was too ornate -- LOL! Using something without any gold on it just looks cheap next to the ornate Angel and most of the simple goldish frames SCREAM metallic gold or are very Asian looking like bamboo or are way too metallic. The Hobby Lobby frame is fairly large and a bit more ornate than what I had in mind but there just weren't that many options -- VERY poor selection! There were two smaller and less ornate frames that I tried but DH, the framer and two clients at the framing station said they looked cheap and sort of chintzy!! Maybe I'll find something better at Michael's. I tried to contact Dawne (the second framer) So that I could get some photos but she is off on holiday and won't be back for a week and I'll be in Lizard Land then. As for the money, if we are going to have 2 mats as most people ***seemed*** to prefer in the past and any sort of decent frame of this size, it's going to cost close to $300. As of today, I have $325.00 cash and from the size of the piece -- regardless of WHAT we pick, it's going to cost a MINIMUM of $75.00 to ship the piece. After putting all of this work into the piece, let's not choose something TOO simple just to save money, OK? The Angel is a bit ornate and she looks unfinished with a simple frame -- almost like we were too cheap to do the job properly. Since I have the Angel in my hot little hands, I could be really horses*it and go along with whatever anyone posts, keep collecting framing donations and then go out and frame the piece the way I would like to see it framed and say to hell with the rest of you guys and what you want. Hells bells, I could be making up a c*ck and bull story about the problems I am having except Janet would have me drawn and quartered and I don't even want to think what would happened to MOI at CATS in Nashville come August -- LOLOL! For anyone worried, remember that I make money doing home decor and sewing and I have training and experience in Home Dec and Art. I have to do things the way the client wants but the client pays me to do that using my expertise. I will listen to what the client wants and then come back with ideas and options to do that OR give the client reasons why their ideas aren't really going to result in the product they have envisioned. YOU guys are my clients and I am trying to remember what all of you who have contributed want. But I AM the one with the piece in my hands and I have to find something that compliments the Angel both in style AND in color and that's NOT easy with the odd fabric this piece has been stitched on. SO -- shall we have a vote on frames, mats, styles, etc.? Better hurry and decide because I leave for 2 weeks in Lizard Land on Wednesday and that leaves just a week and a half after I return to get the framing options nailed down. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I think I need to apologize to LUcille and anyone else I might have offended by my previous post. When I read my post this AM, it sounds like I am kvetching at you all for giving your opinions and that's not what I had intended. The whole purpose of going to so many different framers is to give different options in different price ranges so that people can give their opinions and let us know what they prefer. Unfortunately, the two really simple examples are the ones I don't have photos for yet and I won't get them until I return from Lizard Land -- sorry about that. So again -- I apologize for then "fell" of my previous post. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. I am off to Michael's later today with two of my Needlework friends for another round of "look see". I also found another Independent Framer and will try to stop there IF I have time. Incidentally, if you do decide to go with the matting and the more ornate look I like the filet and think it adds to the look.

Who is criticizing her for her work on the angel. Point it out. Also, I already bought a frame for the angel because that was one of the things I was going to do using my own money and skill.

I could certainly do whatever I want with the Angel since I have her in my possession and I have the money too. Unfortunately, I'm sure you are convinced that I will do just that. Of course, arguing about it won't matter one bit because once the piece is framed and presented, there will be photos of the event and of the Angel. THAT will prove what I have actually done with the piece for everyone here to see. I would get NO gratification from doing whatever I personally want with the piece since I don't actually have any sort of "vested interest" in the piece. I will get much more personal satisfaction knowing I have done my best to find the common ground amongst the 30+ people who will have been involved in this endeavour. Finally, let me say that I am a FIRM believer in the age old say that what goes around comes around. I'm OK with the type of energy I have sent out into the "great beyond" as regards this project.

Photo's of the EVENT? What event? You have taken something I wanted to do and turned it into your circus. That is so sad.

Any "thing" that occurs is an event. I hope and I am sure that the two stitchers who actually present the piece will have a camera and will take some photos of the "event" so that we can post them for everyone to see. This is not my circus. I have been asked to look into arranging some sort of media coverage and have declined to do so. This *is* OUR event (OUR being RCTN and the people who have been involved in this project), but it's NOT a media event as far as I am concerned. If the FDNY HQ wants to arrange some sort of media coverage, that's up to them. If the two people presenting the piece want to arrange some sort of media coverage that's up to them too. The only circus here is the one you are making for yourself with the constant picking, negativity and unkind utterances.

YOu actually told *me* to keep the angel at one point. At least Tia Mary is making sure she gets where she's going.
