Floss colors for color wheel?

I don't have a direct answer for your question, but may have a hint that might get you somewhere. Art student friends of mine took color theory courses in college. A common sort of project was to work with Pantone color chips to create various things, like color wheels or various color illusions (like choosing two color chips and then finding the third color chip that was the color that would result from the first two being overlapped if they were translucent). If you could find information on such projects and could get the Pantone numbers, you could probably match those to the floss colors pretty easily. You might also stumble across some interesting ideas for projects aside from the color wheel idea.

That's where I came up with the blue-violet / blue-green colors that don't quite ring true to me.

I bought a chart a few years ago meant to be done on canvas but using DMC floss. It was a color wheel as I recall. I haven't stitched it yet, but did read through some of what the designer had written. She got a lot of the transition colors by using a strand from 2 different colors. I'll see if I can find the pattern tonight. My stash is in a state of upheaval right now so I might not find it until this weekend.
