I'm back

"Dr. Brat" had some very interesting things to say about Re: I'm back:

Felix freaks at the *sound* of the Dremel. I can't imagine using it on his claws without some major bloodshed.

Since it has been damp and humid, the aroma lingers still. His owner hasn't been over since I told him the silly dog introduced himself to the skunk.

As to the scent - like manure, a small bit is not unpleasant and seems one with the natural world. But a whole skunk's worth, will induce head aches, nausea and make everything taste off.

Cheryl

I can live with that description lol

What do you mean his owner hasn't been over since skunk day????? That makes it sound very much like Dakota is moving from visitor to resident to adopted canine.

Tell us about it! DH and he have had a few meals together and I think we've all been there once. Now - in all honesty, he is in the final throws of house building (paint colors, needed to pick a new carpet, arguing with the building inspector) and travels for work, but STILL.

DH swears the dog is going home, but, I got this funny feeling!

Cheryl

New house, all nicely decorated, dog that likes to tangle with skunks, don't somehow see them mixing well lol

My eldest daughter had a NS DuckToller who tolled a skunk one evening. When my daughter opened the door, Morgan dashed in and fled to underneath their bed. In the end they even had to replace the carpet in their bedroom - she was very unpopular.

I have admit, with the all the fancy wood floors to say nothing of the marble and new carpet, I begin to wonder about him going home. And the fact that Dakota choose to curl up next to DD than stay next to "daddy" may have stuck in his craw.

Oh no! thank goodness Dakota doesn't like stairs!

Cheryl

OK - horse, cow or pig? Horse is fine!

Pig or chicken! not as foul as turkey or goose.

Next time you`ll have to send me a snip of his hair in a bottle! LOL! I don`t want to die ignorant! ;-))

There is that hint of sulfur.

Strangely, there is a small subgroup, that find the smell of skunks to be pleasing. Cheryl

Her name is Aksamite (ax-SAM-eet) and she has the burden of ruling a dog-centered home. But as she is 13 and on her fourth dog, having outlived two of them, I would say that you have nothing to worry about.

When it's brand fresh, it smells quite like an electrical fire. It mellows out to something more earthy than that, but it is still unpleasant.

Elizabeth

What an interesting name. Does it stand for anything specific, or is it a made up one?

It's a really, really bad joke. I got her to be a companion for my cocker spaniel Satin when I got my first job and was living all by myself for the first time. Satin was 6 and had never been the only animal in the house before and a cat made more sense than another dog at the time. A neighbor suggested that since the dog was Satin the cat should be Velvet. I couldn't quite do that, but Satin and I had spent time in Poland, so aksamite is Polish for velvet.

And lest Lucretia start feeling sorry for her again, let me say that I spent several weeks looking for just the right cat to join our household (it needed to be fairly young, yet big enough to defend itself if the Cocker didn't accept it right away). I learned a whole lot about being cat-owned, too. And no sooner did she come home than circumstances dictated that we add a second dog to the mix. So, we were a two animal house-hold from Thanksgiving until New Year's when I was able to pick up a five year old Sheltie who needed to be removed from a home with a new baby and then we became a three animal household (and it's been that way pretty much consistently ever since). The good thing was that Sasha was already cat-saavy and those three animals provided me with much levity during what was a very difficult time in my life. I'd say that Aksamite doesn't like either Harry or Cash as much as she liked Satin and Sasha (especially Sasha), but she does let Cash get away with murder.

Do you really think that someone whose dog is named Puff would think any name was a bad joke? lol

In any case, it makes perfect sense to me (what does that say about me) because a friend of mine named her dog Kelev, which in Hebrew means "dog." Most people thought it was such a clever name, but it wouldn't have been so cute in Israel.

To me, burned popcorn has some similarity.
