OFF TOPIC mini rant

Ok - yesterday was a tough day in some ways. Tried to garden but could NOT stay focused on anything that needed doing - transplanting, dividing, weeding. Couldn't stay focused on any stitching - had to frog every few stitches. Couldn't stayed focused on reading. Couldn't go do the errands because UPS was supposed to come over.

SO UPS finally shows at 4:55 PM. DH is going to the Elks after work, so it's fend for yourself night. DD comes home dirty and sweaty.

Go take a shower NO GO take a shower. NO GO TAKE A SHOWER! NO - I'm not dirty. GO TAKE A SHOWER NOW! or you're grounded for the weekend Stomp, stomp, stomp. Sound of water running.

Now, I'm trying to get DS's essay edited. He manages to turn off all the proofing tools when he can't spell something and .....

Drip Drip Drip

DD, being really mad at me, has overflowed the tub....

No damage except to her buttocks and lots more laundry for Mom to wash while waiting for UPS to come back today with another package that needs to be signed for.

Cheryl, I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad day. I'll keep good thoughts and "children listen to your mother" thoughts going for you today.

Larisa, still trying to excavate the sewing room to find the: quilting supplies, patterns that I need for some clothing, and the WIPS that I want to get finished and framed....they have *got* to be here somewhere.

The second one is the one I really need! It wouldn't have been a bad day except for the drips and the editing. I actually got a bit done, had a great salad for lunch and did finish (eventually) a good mystery. I just could not finish anything like I wanted to - start to finish. (Ok - weeding is never done, same as laundry, but....)

I know that feeling

I can just see this. The youngest of the godchildren (4 in one family) is

  1. And while physically matured a bit early, she is emotionally more like a 10 year old. So, for the last at least 2 years the bathing thing is a serious battle - all the time. Poor kid needs to use deodarant, as well, and while most girls in middle school are now at least starting to be interested in boys, and their appearance a little bit, this one is still in the smelly, sweaty, grimey mode and doesn't notice it. So, her parents who are very busy, and the next oldest - graduating high school next month - and us - are basically in the rotation of always, always, having to ask "did you take a shower" or more like "honey - you need to go - take a shower, change your clothes, wash-up, or fill in similar hygiene related anti-smelly kid request. Especially as this one will tell us "Oh, I took a shower or changed my clothes" when the olfactory evidence is to the contrary.

Hey - how does he do that?

OUCH.

Can I say OUCH again?

Well, have a fun day. I'm in the laundry and yardwork day today - as soon as I can get DH up from his little sleep-in! It's going to be really hot this afternoon, so we've got to get going now, because by about 2:30 it'll be really uncomfortable for yardwork.

One advantage to having a swimmer is that they are fastidiously clean. They are in the water, shower after, shower in the morning. Deodorant has become a habit.

One disadvantage to having a swimmer is that they are fastidiously clean. At least two pairs of undies and socks a day. Plus dry land clothes. School clothes. Hang out after practice clothes. and PJs.

I work for UPS. Ask your driver for some "driver release stickers." You can sign these and leave them on your door and then go about your day. The driver will take the signed sticky note and leave your package where ever you want - ie garage, back porch, between the screen door. Or, call 1-800-pick-ups and tell them you would like to make your package a will call. Then you can go to the center and pick it up during their business hours.

No - this was just dirt and sweat and not really body stinky, just played hard kid. NOW - DS was just like that until about a 18 months ago.

He starts in Apple Works and then, when he gets an error message he doesn't understand, he hits ignore. Then it's "right"

I flooded the bathroom yesterday - well the kitchen sink was full of dishes and the bathroom basin was nearest in which to dunk two thirsty plant pots. Trouble is I forgot that I`d left it slowly filling and came to the computer.

There was a yell of anguish from John, and a bit of name-calling (until I reminded him that it`s usually HIM who leaves the KITCHEN tap running!)

I`m still washing/drying all the bath towels I threw on the floor to soak it up. Grrr! At least I didn`t get my bum slapped!!! LOLOLOL!

The hockey routine is similar, early practice, shower, change clothes, give Mom the wet stuff from on ice, go to school, go to late practice, give Mom wet stuff, shower.... C

I would except we had an issue once where something pricy was supposedly delivered and never was. I was home, the guy claimed he left it in front of the door and left. We were covered but since then, play it safe especially when it comes to electronics. We've also do will calls, but with the price of gas, I tend to prefer to stay home and wait for them. UPS isn't on the usual errand route.

C (PS - it was one of the "other guys" not UPS, but we play it safe any how)

I think with all sports it's something like that. It's worse with the multi-sport kids. My remembrance is the swim stuff in the way early, then school, then tennis, then swim, then....whatever. Worst, for a while in high school I was working at the racetrack (started as a hotwalker, got to do some exercise riding in the early mornings), biked to track, get horsey, go home, if lucky in time to shower and get to school bus. If not, well, horse went with me in scent to school. Then, to tennis practice, then home, then to practice again. Yummy.

Around here - it's tons of hockey and softball gear of late. DH goes through regular undies, and sporty undies (totally different), and then there is the worn to/from rink clothes. Now that he's playing at the rink near the house, he just comes home to shower - but when he's reffin' or playing out - then he absolutely has to shower at the rink - and I get him smelling fresh, but a heap of soggy disgustingness for the laundry. One plumber took a look at all the drying, hanging gear in the old house full basement (very well lit, finished) and thought we had several sons - not just both our playing, reffin', roller and softball gear. Ah, those were the fit days. No wonder we had to replace the laundry machines.

Pictures please?

I think it is really and truly new dryer time, but DH bought new printers, wants "furniture" to put them on and wants a flat panel TV and not one of the "little ones".

LOL - you want a picture of DH's undies???? Or the collection of sports stuff? He is really liking the underarmour longish (mid thigh) light compression sports undies for under his goalie stuff.

The dryer is impportant to overall quality of life. We've put the big TV on hold. The large, tube Sony died about 3 months ago (maybe 37") and we found a bargain on a flat screen (not lcd) tube tv, 27" that is sitting in its place downstairs. Of course, that one will come up to the main level family room on the corner unit (not our main TV watching place). And ultimately we're looking at a large DLP for downstairs - the boy/rec room. But, until then, we can do just fine. We have plenty of space, but there is no way that we could do a big expensive TV for thousands with everything else going on. We did get a great little bargain hd-lcd for the kitchen/breakfast room. Tell him boxes for the printers - and to think we just sold a pair of printer stands for only $15!

Dryer - how's the washer as well? Didn't you replace that recently? One thing that we did learn, switching the washer - we have not much lint with these dryer loads. The service guy told us that it's because this washer doesn't beat up the clothes the way the agitator ones do, or even our prior HE with the "nub" for an agitator - hence less lint. I'm telling you, this dryer center thing is awesome for anyone who has a lot of things that have to lay flat to dry (sweaters, some delicates), drip dry and to refresh things rather than just sending them to the dry cleaner.

a new dryer - it'll speed up the massive quantities of laundry. I thinkthat the current Whirlpool Cabrio system is like our first HE set - theCalypso. But we now have the big DUET washer, with the sanitary cycle (forthe medic gear), and the Maytag drying center. I liked the basic Whirlpooldryer better - either the Duet or the Cabrio, but this had the upper part, and I use it - a lot. It is really handy with the capacity, etc. Ellice

He'd kill you if you sent a picture of him in his undies, especially the compression ones! giggle

If I could figure out the problem, I'd be ok, I think....sometimes it dries toasty and fast and other times, it is like it tossing the towels around and around in cold air

I'm really interested in looking for a bookcase type arrangement. And we won't go into the TV issue, I'll go insane trying to explain it all.

Washer is fairly new and there is a lot less lint.

Very true. Although, you did get to see the smiley bruise on the left cheek. Tee hee - I hadn't deleted it from the digi-camera when we went to the Dec. Stitchin' Post get together, and IIRC, Donna, Sue and maybe Ericka were also treated to that.

At least from the hips down - he's in the hockey player great quads shape, great calves - if you like the muscular legs thing. But, still working on losing his last extra bit in the tummy.

Y'know, it might just be that it's time to be replaced. Appliances like that, more than 10 years old, anything goes wrong serious, you might as well move on. Plus the newer ones are more energy efficient - so it might help your utility bill.

We ended up getting a desk, hutch and lateral file/printer stand from the nice unfinished wood place. It's very well made, and with any planning I should have it all stained and in place within a week or two.

TV issue - there is no explanation needed. It's an electronic toy. We're the only people in our neighborhood without some big LCD or Plasma. We have seen people move in, and the tv is hung and working before anything else. Heck, most of them don't even have furniture. Fortunately, when we get to it, we have the space for a DLP, which is much cheaper than a similar size LCD, and more reliable. But, I'm really glad that we didn't give into electronic lust last fall when we almost took the plunge. Who knew it would take so long for me to get working.

Yup - all things in good time. But, hey - we found a really nice herb/veggie/flower nursery today. Going to go back this week (Donna?) and pick up some herbs. They also carry this NJ selfwatering system of stacking planters that is way cool, and I think we're going to hang one off the trellis on the deck, so I can have my herbs, without Puckster Pee-watering!

And when I finally meet him, I won't let on! I hope!

DS has the best legs. A little around the middle too.

I know. But, I have to dispose of the old one and go shopping to see who has the best deal and the dishwasher is acting up and.....

Tried doing a little furniture shopping yesterday. Your basic waste of time.

LOL - he knows. He's not thrilled about it, but he knows.

Skater thing. When I first started playing hockey, as in the summer learning/playing program - our then coach had a couple of assistants that were either playing juniors or heading to college (one was playing at Air Force). I still remember them telling me that "hockey players have the best legs - especially quads" . They were cute guys, and nice.

I think lots of sports which use the lower body will do it. My friends that bike have a regular competition about whose calves look better (female friends).

Aaah. Well, the appliance guys took away the old one last time. Dishwasher

- I don't like our new one. We got the top of the line Whirlpool gold, which was identical to the Kitchenaid, but doesn't have the stainless steel interior, and has some black trim on the stainless front, and was about $700 cheaper (from the builder). It doesn't seem to clean as well as I'd like, even with the 2 sprayers, etc. It does have the built-in food chopper thing so you don't have to worry about food getting jammed in the works (like a pre-disposal) which is great. And has good cycles, including a sensing cycle. And a glasses only express wash - great for those days when it's just lots of glasses being used - or unpacking! But, it seems to me that unless I use the pre-heat extra hot wash thing, the dishes aren't so clean. But, the problem was more evident with the old Corelle. Now that we're using the Denby, that seems to have gone away - so maybe it was an issue with the Corelle aging. Who knows. Next time, I'm getting the Bosch or Miele - my cousin has the Bosch, and it's awesome, quiet, etc.

I feel that pain. We're still waiting on some deliveries after the builder finishes. We tried looking for a china display unit a couple of weeks ago and gave up. I think it's going to be one of those antiquing and looking as time permits things.

I'm happy with getting them from the local family nursery - the prices are really good, and they have an amazing variety . Place is called Debaggio's in Chantilly, VA.

Darn - it's hot and muggy here. Yuck. Well, got to get DH up and finally go do yardwaork. Uh huh.
