And if it's on tape you can zip through the interminable advertisements

It's why I love having a DVR (aka TiVo), digital quality picture and sound, if I record a show in High Definition, it plays back in Hi Def!

Zipping thru commercials is even easier than with a VCR!

Over here we are fortunate in having several BBC TV and radio channels that have NO adverts - except for short plugs for forthcoming BBC programmes. The "commercial" stations are truly awful, adverts every few minutes - mind you, the adverts are often better than the "real" programmes.

It is! I'm excited he's in the neighborhood again. Always a treat, and it was a long hiatus before he recently started back up with doing more frequent shows.

Nice thought, but I'm not sure I can swing too early. I've got the kids from after school until 5pm when DH gets home, so unless he comes home early or I get a sitter I can't bail until 5pm. On the other hand, if we left at 5pm I should still have a little time to do something before the show, so we'll see!

Chipped Beef on Toast. It was served often to American soldiers and they gave it the name SOS

I was going to say this doesn't exist in UK, but how do I know anymore? The *chipped beef* is very thin pieces of dried beef, usually sold in jars. I used to soak it a bit, while I made a thickish, seasoned white sauce. Then the beef was added to it, and served over biscuits (non-sweet scones) or toast ( the shingle) for breakfast. The late DH loved it, so I learned fast how to do that!!

Bruce, that is extremely cruel!!! I prefer my dripping cold, but with plentiful salt and pepper!! Wonder how we all survived such "evil" foods, huh??

I loved crumpets, cooked on the toasting fok by the fire, deipping with butter and pepper!

Monday - tape Heroes, since I'm bowling Tues. - Boston Legal (wasn't David Spader *great* dressed as Candace Bergen???? LOL!) Wed. - Medium and starting next week, Lost. *WHY* did they move them to the same time slot???? grrrrrrrrrrr Will have to tape *both* of them! Thurs. - My name is Earl, Ugly Betty and (they did it again!) ER & Men in trees. Fri. - Las Vegas - gotta love Josh Duhamel, plus he's from ND!!! Sat & Sun - anything but tv---nothing good's on.

Now, having admitted I watch only the 3 major networks, that's all we get w/ our rabbit ears. We used to have a dish but it broke and we weren't watching it enough to justify the expense at the time. I loved it when we had it for Nick at Nite (for me), the Disney Channel (me & the kids) and the movies (me & DH).

Oh good - I'm not alone - don't like the reality shows either - and can't find any "comedy" that's funny. Daily Show with Jon Stewart being the exception because he's just so smart and sarcastic! I do watch certain cooking shows and some home remodeling. I like the food from Ina Garten, Curtis Stone, Jamie Oliver and Tyler Florence...can't stand Emeril or Bobby Flay or those too impressed with themselves. We do watch all the CSIs and Numb3rs and Bones - I read all of Kathy Reichs' books before the show was on the air. Other than that I'd rather watch a movie - don't care about Survivors or races or Idols.....read a book instead :)
