Yesterday was the best day for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last June, underwent a lumpectomy, b mastectomy, 18 wks of chemo, and 7 wks of radiation. I just finished radiation yesterday! I have been cancer free since the mastectomy, but have chosen to have a second mastectomy to completely rid the odds of it coming back to the second breast! that will be on Feb. 22. I am so grateful for family and friends during this difficult time, but I have also enjoyed reading the posts in this newsgroup. You all are such nice people, and I love the OT stories and questions. Thanks to all of you!

Congratulations. What a huge milestone for you!
Will you have reconstruction? A friend of mine opted to have both breasts removed, for symmetry, without reconstruction. She had to appeal to her insurance company, and threaten to get a lawyer, but they ultimately approved the surgery, because the law says they have to pay for "symmetry."
If a success story would be encouraging, I am 12+ years out from my mastectomy.
Many good wishes to you, and congrats on finishing your radiation. Hope all continues well for you. DH will be celebrating 20 years since his serious bout, and surgeries - and has done amazingly well. If you didn't know, you wouldn't know - he still skates a good 15-25 hours a week (between reffin' and playing), and for me with the cervical it's been 16 years - so we're pretty lucky, and happy. Always happy to hear someone else getting through the ordeal and moving forward.

Very best wishes - I`m sure you`ve made the right decision, and you`re very brave. Just to cheer you, my old school friend had her single mastectomy thity-five years ago, and no recurrence at all. She`s still a very lively 72 year-old,
