OT: More disgusting weather !

So from freezing in the arctic temps we went up yesterday to snow at noon and thereafter. In the night it changed to really heavy rain on top of it all and this morning there is severe flooding, even trucks are off the road.

So I didn't go to bridge this a.m. but am still hoping to make a lunch date. I hate weather, I hate winter and wish I could hibernate in winter - something like a squirrel does. They hibernate if it is below zero but on sunny days, out they come, running along the branches.

Winter should not be allowed, we should have permanent summer!

Rant over ~ for the time being.

Oh dear, we got snow and more snow. Maybe another 12 inches

DD had three hockey games this week and really shone all weekend. Sadly, the visiting team canceled for Sunday afternoon. After all the snow had been cleared. She was quite upset - she was really up for another game.

Almost done with the cross stitch part of my current project. Just need to work at it tonight and should be able to start the back stitches.

Well, it warmed up here for the big doings - but at 26 F, we're also having some snow flurries, and it's very grey outside - the sky looks like it wants to snow.

Sorry the weather is miserable for you.

Um, this does lead to the question of - why not move to a better climate? You could do the snowbird thing - go find a place near Lucille, or Gillian. You'd certainly not be the lone Canadian - and then head back north during the warm months. And that would let the kids come visit you in the warm weather.

Sorry you missed bridge - hope you make your lunch date.

OK - you're entitled.

Oh, I know! The kids are home today, and enjoying a quiet day. I've been out shovelling twice, and am girding myself to go out again. The snow is very heavy and slushy, so I want to get it done before it freezes again, or we'll have a skating rink outside the door. I stopped at the grocery store after rehearsal yesterday to pick just a few things so that we can do some baking today. The kids love that, and it's a good activity on a day like this. Hopefully, the rain stops soon so the kids can go outside for a bit this afternoon. I hope you make your lunch date, Sheena, but drive carefully!

Um. You're just wrong on that point. I'd much rather have permanent winter than permanent summer. Summer wears me out. I can't stand heat and humidity.

You certainly are entitled to your rant. It's been a rotten winter for you and everyone north of Florida.

Today's weather is perfect for today, but it's expected to maybe hit freezing in parts of Florida tomorrow. Can you just imagine the outfits people here, who are used to being overheated most of the time, will dig out of their closets to keep warm?

I just finished a little Sweetheart Tree Teeny-Weeny called Think Snow. Now I need to figure out how to finish it. I certainly don't want to pay a fortune for a custom frame. It measures about 3+ by 4+ because I did it on a scrap of Aida that was left from something. Any ideas would be welcome.

Ellice, you need to define "better climate". From what I have observed, no matter where you live, there is always something about the weather that is not nice. In the Caribbean or Florida, it is hurricanes. In parts of California, Santa Anna winds and wild fires. In the UK, you often dont get summer at all. etc etc. Personally, I am quite content with weather in Ottawa. It is at least reasonably predictable, the bad parts are not the bad, and the good parts are really nice. Jim.

We once considered that but friends who actually did it found they led a double life and in addition, my kids and their offspring and offspring are all hereabouts, so I endure. I have one dear friend left who still goes south to Florida yearly but each year they are thinking this will be the last, health becomes a problem.

We just 'phoned each other and lunch is on. I can also go past the post office and ship out my uncles socks which I finished yesterday lol

Now if I have to cancel bridge tomorrow afternoon - then there will be nuclear disturbances in Halifax lol

I should be grateful, at least there are no kids here !! Yes we are on for lunch but I will only be going along Dunbrack, rather than down the hill, so no probs.

I think you are thinking well, if I had a driveway I had to clear, I would be doing it because when this lot freezes (and you can bet it will) it would be a far more major job. Good luck with it !

I adore snow! Since I was able to retire I don't have to drive it it until the streets are all cleared, and even when I worked I hopped on the bus on snowy days. Other than people having trouble getting around safely, I think snow is great stuff! I have a snowthrower to clean off the driveway and sidewalks, and before I put it back into the garage I make a pass on both sides of the street on this block to clear the front walk for the neighbors and mail carrier. Even the dog seems to love snow, and plays like crazy in the back yard when we have fresh snow, and I have to set the timer on the microwave so she doesn't stay outside too long. (She's crippled and doesn't let much stop her or slow her down, but it she gets too chilled her bad leg siezes up.)

Well, we're not in your category - but---SNOW is here. It started about a couple of hours ago- some heavy flurries - stuck, then stopped. But, now it's really snowing, big fluffy, yet wet. And swirling quite a bit - looks awesome from my window here in the office. The yard is covered, the dog already had a little, damp, romp.

We were debating going downtown just to enjoy the atmosphere - the crowds are much lighter today than yesterday or tomorrow. The CNN coverage live, points out the difference our 30 mi of west, and elevation make - it's clear downtown, albeit grey.

She sounds more like DH, who reffed a bunch. And the reason we're not heading into town - his head/neck still bothering him from his big getting run-over last weekend. I'm thinking he may actually need to go see our primary care - since he saw the ortho last week. Anyhow, he seems to have had a mild, mild, concussion which I'm now only getting him to admit all the symptoms. Sorry men, but....sometimes guys are just asses about these things.

Good for you. I got some more done on Baroque, and am going to send an on-topic note....

We were joking after Saturday's rough games that one of the mom's, who's an ER nurse, should sit on the bench. DD got shoved into the boards after being tripped and never had a chance to protect her head. (she's fine, but I was a tad worried when she took her helmet off and sat still for several minutes. Her buddy Jack took care of the tripper.

Looking forward to it!

That's cute. Donna has become the queen of finishing, IMHO. She's been doing pendibles, and biscornus, etc. Why not just finish it like a little squishy thing - a pin cushion, or little sachet?

I've been stacking up a bunch of mid-size and some smalls that I'm just doing as little pillows, or mini-wall hanginsgs - with minimal quilting.

LOL - I knew I should have been specific. Life & weather have their ups'n' downs everywhere, all the time. I meant better as WRT what Sheena is moaning about - winter.

The UK comment - oh, so true. I always remember going in August to do some work, and a set of experiments that had to be done outdoors - of course, we're at the Thames estuary lower edge of the North Sea - on an island connected by causeway. I should've known. We were delayed 2 weeks because the weather went from about 60 F to suddenly hovering around freezing, with wind. The hotel I was staying in thought I was some "crazy Yank" because I was asking for an extra blanket, and complaining that my room was quite cold (the bath was fine).. Turned out on the 3rd day they checked, and the heater thermostat in that part of the building was broken - and indeed it was quite cold in my room - with lovely, huge bay windows facing towards the Theames! They apologized profusely. And, I had to go buy a sweater as I wasn't quite fully prepared for the weather.
