Aren't perogies just another type/nationality of ravioli? ;-))

Though the concept (making 'envelopes') is similar you cannot imagine the variations on a theme. Quite apart from sweet or savoury. The first time in Edmonton I had a taster plate of about 20 mini perogies, no one alike. Beef, pork, chicken, veggie mixes, you name it. The big difference is that the perogies are the thing, rather than a sauce they are contained in.

Does Boston Pizza serve perogy pizza throughout the continent?? There's a real melding of cultures for you. Dawne
I don't believe they do here, I will look next time our group goes there! I can't quite imagine it lol
Lucretia, after your description of the varieties of perogies (rather than just the plain beef, cheese or spinach one usually sees in relation to ravioli), it's probably a good thing that Boston Pizza does NOT have a location in Massachusetts, or I might be searching it out. ;-)

It's like many things, when you eat them made by the people who birthed the idea they taste entirely different. I have seen some in the frozen food section here but I wouldn't touch them, they don't even look right and they were not made out Dawne's way where so many people came from the Ukraine etc. They are very nice and also a nice change from anything else when well made.
Somehow, if they do have them at Boston Pizza here, I don't think I will order them. I think probably what BP do is provide a local dish. I noticed they have a lobster pasta here, whereas Dawne would get the perogies. Poor Dawne lol

Poor Dawne indeed. Perogy pizza has potatoes, green onions, cheddar cheese and sour cream on it. They also make the fold-over version (stromboli I think is their term???). No lobster. Damn. Perogies can also make an appearance at breakfast. At a diner in Calgary, my DIL ordered the Ukrainian Farmer's Breakfast, which included eggs, potatoes, toast, perogies, and Ukrainian sausage (maybe bacon too). How you are supposed to walk out to the north 40 after packing that away I don't know. Dawne
No, the idea is that walking to the north 40 is what keeps you healthy after that! LOL
My grandparents ate HUGE breakfasts, a light lunch and a light dinner; both were quite slim all their lives.

Roll along like a little ball :) Did she manage to finish it? I can't imagine spuds and perogies.
I wonder if they are supposed to be similar to piroschkis? My mom used to make these and my kids love them as well when I make them. Very simple small meat turnovers - usually with just ground beef plus hard boiled egg, sour cream, dill, onion. Great with soup but not at all like the things I see in the freezer section at the store.
