I was looking for replacement bulbs for the porch lamp and I spotted the "OTT Plant Lamp" and "OTT Natural Light Grow" bulbs. I think I've just found myself a portable Ott Lamp and at a bargain price (compared to the craft stores).
They may not be the same - but who knows. I'd check the numbers to see. I actually got a daylight one at Costco - that touchs on - rather than the turn a switch thing.
Now for those of you who get the Parade Magazine in your Sunday paper, did you see the ad for the Ott-Lite Vision-Saver Plus lamps? They are advertising a floor lamp along with a desk lamp for $89.95 plus shipping. When you go to the link, it was dead. I wrote to them and they put the page up - it only contains a phone number. No description like I was looking for.
Could it be possible that you can get 2 otts for such a cheap price? Nothing on their site has anything for under 100.00, let alone 2 lamps.
They aren't the same... well, sort of but not really.
I e-mailed the OTT folks a week ago to ask them the differences between two of their lights (and whether the bulbs could be switched)... sometimes you *can* switch similar based bulbs, but you blow your warranty if you do so.
Also, they have... I think it's 3 different types of bulbs now. One created for high contrast (needlework), one for closer to daylight (still high contrast, but not quite so much), and the plant light (more UV, I think... can't remember).
Hmm - I don't know if it's coating or a difference in the temperature of the lamps giving the different color temperatures. FWIW, we saw in Lowe's last night a couple of Ott lights - they're the natural daylight spectrum ones in a table and floor lamp.
My Ott lamp seems to get very hot. It's just the little portable one that goes on when you open lift the lid. I've always wondered if it should heat up like that?
I cart my old-fashioned Ottlamp with the handle all over the place. But, did get the daylight one for the bedroom, and have been looking at getting the langer bulbed 27 Watt standing lamp for the studio - that way it could be over the drafting table, or the futon when I'm stitching.
You definitely deserve whatever you can get for a peaceful stitching place.
Mine gets warm - but not very hot. Though, after it's been on for about an hour, I'll notice the area around is warm. Halogen lamps will get quite hot. If yours is getting really hot quickly - you might call them about it.
I generally only use my portable one for class, but Santa Claus did bring me an adjustable table lamp with magnifier, for use over my sewing machine in the studio. The (cheap) one I have there at present is not satisfactory, doesn't hold either its angle or its height, so I am delighted with this one.
And some day, I may get it! But, I have managed to convince DH that we don¹t need statements from the bank we left 3 years ago! I think I'll make the deposit slips from there disappear too. C
I want to find a daylight lamp that I can stick in my "nook" if I can ever find the right fabric to make a one piece throw for the chair - or find a cheap slipcover (like $20) in an acceptable color. And a lamp and bookcase and a side table and........
