Re: Dear Red States

Oh, PUHLEASE!! Are you kidding?! Is it really that we all out here have inferiority complexes, or perhaps it's just you with a superiority complex?! You've got a real chip or twelve on your shoulders, it seems to me. That's why you have this incessant need to one-up practically everyone and everything that comes across this newsgroup. You're overcompensating. Do you really think you're some rare creature having a college education? Maybe during your college years it was less common for women to attend college, but honey, times have changed. Many here have multiple degrees, some even Ph.D.'s. And even if they don't, it's hardly something to be jealous about, and it certainly doesn't make anyone less smart than you! Do you really thing we're all jealous that you get to lie on your couch all day, too sick to work? Sounds like success to me! There isn't one thing about your life that I want or am jealous of. Not one damn thing.

I've got further news for you. There has been research study after research study stating that women have better communication skills than men. The reason you don't get along with women, is that women know the art of successful communication lies in not in the ability to speak affectively, but in the ability to listen effectively. Since you deem all womanly conversations as vapid and mindless, no wonder no women want to befriend you. You don't want to partake in anything they might might to talk about, you only want to talk about how you're sicker than everyone else, how you have a worse ex-husband than everyone else, blah blah blah. I'd run from you like the plague, too. Hell if I'd ever consent to coming over and helping you.

Although we have some great male contributors to this newsgroup, by and large this newgroup is comprised of women. In that past year, we've discussed politics, religion, geography, culture, sports, our families, our pets, and lots of other things that are important to us. Rarely has there been a conversation fawning over the latest fashion, but a few discussing youth and fads, and not one conversation about makeup!! Have you been listening?! I frankly LOVE makeup and would relish sharing tips about great products and the tried and true with other women. It doesn't mean that's all I think about. I don't wear it every day either, and since I had the baby, I rarely wear it at all, but I still wouldn't mind talking about it. Talking about baseball maybe makes you feel good about yourself. Giving myself a great pedicure makes me feel good about myself (but it's far from the only thing). I'm a woman, and I like feeling like one. That shouldn't make me any less of a human than you. It most certainly doesn't make me a bimbo!!

You've managed to offend Democrats, Republicans, Blue staters, Red staters, midwesterners, east coasters, Californians, and even some half way around the world. You've made offensive statements regarding light skinned people, dark skinned people, Native Americans, Hispanics, "lily-white" midwesterners, "under-educated single moms", the moral, the not so moral, the religious right, and the just plain religious.

The one that needs to look in the mirror the most, might just be yourself.

I tried it and found it didn't work at all well on my dry skin, plus it made a mess in the sink.

Lucille

Yes, I think their line is fantastic--I swear by it, especially the foundation. I've tried the knock-offs, but they just aren't as good. I just wish it was a little more affordable. I find myself rationing it, kind of like Seinfeld's Elaine and her sponge worthyness rating. LOL My only complaint, is that it's hard to put it on while driving.....J/K!

I agree with Lucille about the mess, but my favorite remedy for that are the Dow Scrubbing Bubbles wipes. I also have extremely dry skin and it's hard to find facial products that moisturize enough, especially during our harsh winters. I've tried the $100 an ounce Creme de la Mer, but it's all hype without hope. I've been using the Regenerist Microsculpting Cream as of late and while I like my skin texture better using it (and it's only $23), I still end up using a separate moisturizer with it. The Weleda creams are nice (and all natural, not animal tested, and Fair Trade), and I'm curious to see how they do this winter. I also really like some of the facial products from Lush (also all natural and not animal tested), but they only have limited brick and mortar availability here in the States (and I like trying before buying).

Glad to be a woman, Jinx

You sound like my evil SIL - she would not put soap by the basin because she said it made a mess. At least that made me look a smidge better to my MIL lol

That did wound a little TA didn't it? Thank goodness I'm not that bad.

Of course that should read Sound

Aha! Now I know who my competition is! Isn't eBay great??

  1. I never said I hated you.
  2. I didn't pin the blame on you for your divorce

I was listing examples of how you always have to one-up everyone. But yet again, you have to point out to everyone that we're all wrong, thereby making you the right one (as usual).

J.

Here. Reading in silence, nearly every day. And don't think for a moment I'm not a regular if I haven't contributed as prolifically as you. As far as I know, you're not hauling your ass into any office every single day, so regardless of whether or not you're actually working while lying on your couch, the fact remains that you still deem yourself too sick for a regular job. And tell us about it, repeatedly.

I work at home in my jammies, too. Big whoop. And on a good day, I can clear several thousand dollars in commission with little to no effort. So what?

Do you know the definition of whining? See above for a great example. And just how do you know that I haven't seen any patients firsthand? You don't have a clue about me, my family, my friends, my past or present employment history. You should know what they say about assuming. And when did I ever say the cure was a kick in the butt?? YOU are the one passing judgment here. Like I said before, some real chips on your shoulder. So defensive!

I'm not annoyed. I'm having too much fun to killfile you..

La la la...head in the clouds...I'm superior in every way...I've accomplished more under worse circumstances than everyone else...I'm the queen....you're all wrong....la la la...

Whatever you say, Stuart Smalley. You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.

J.

Yes, Karen, everyone else is always the bully. You do no wrong.

J.

Oh for christs sake Karen - you are writing drivel ! I think I have only known ONE woman who was anything like you have described. Since not one person has seen fit to agree with you, you would do better to desist !

THERE ! NOW I JUST STATED MY OPINION AND I AM NOT ASKING IF IT'S OKAY WITH YOU !

Karen you are NOT a Betty Friedan or Gloria Steinem, you are far, far from it !

I would like to add that being a Betty Crocker isn't such a bad thing. That name took what housewives thought of as an everyday necessary thing to do, cook for their family, and made it a multi-million dollar industry. Smart advertising campaign, wasn't it?

You seem to think that being a housewife is a terrible thing. Why can't you accept that some people, both men and women, like doing housewifely things, and/or think cooking is a great way of life, and prefer to take their kids to the park then sit around doing intellectual things.

You really need to learn to be less whiny and more tolerant.

Lucille

As a former student, I'd like to see my former professor quoted correctly.

It's "Well-behaved women seldom make history." - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

She used this line a scholarly paper written early in her career. It gained popularity. And now she has a book with that title.

What a wonderful statement. Thanks for sharing! Dianne

No, you phrase your opinions as if they were the Goddess' truth itself and then wonder why people argue with you when it was just an opinion.

Elizabeth

Maybe you should figure out that nobody cares who was the villain in that marriage. You married him, so who was the stupid one?
