All eight corners, that is. My latest quilt started out as a paper-pieced pattern in a class with Deb Karasik (of Quilt Mavens fame). I decided not to make it square, so it's octagonal. The machine quilting was inspired by a class called Dancing Feathers from Sharon Schamber. Both of these classes were last July at Quilt Camp in the Pines. The quilt may be finished, but I think I'm going to have to move the hanging sleeve closer to the top so that said top doesn't flop over in disgust. :S That will have to wait, though, until I've finished a baby quilt I've just found out I need to make; it's for a former student (one of my favorites, of course ).If you'd like to see the octagonal quilt (now called Spiked Desert Star), it's at .

Of all the nerve! Yes. I have nerve. Never done a wallhanging of any caliber, certainly never done anything that magnificent but still I do (timidly) venture a suggestion. Sandy, I don't like your hanging rod at all. I want one that doesn't show. It strikes me much like putting dangly earrings on the Mona Lisa. Since I don't know what I'm talking about, I surely don't know exactly how you'd go about it - but I'd like a rod that's set inside the edges of the quilt and hides. Phooey on the rod. That spectacular quilt shouldn't have to share it's beauty with a rod. Maybe even a 2nd rod at it's greatest width to keep it from wandering or dumping. I admit I don't know diddly about wallhangings but I DO know something about paintings and the right frame can make just a world of difference. Your quilt deserves the best presentation possible. I do hope somebody here follows what I'm wanting. Somebody help me? Polly

I have an octagon WH that is not as magnificent as Sandy's but about the same size and shape. I use the hang ups for it.

They are good looking and in the top 4 'corners' do a great job of holding the WH up. Just an alternative. Taria

Sandy, A woman in our guild had a round hanging that she was having trouble with. She had a sleeve put in the middle with a piece of flat wood in and one in the top area and a hook at the top. Nothing showed. Is there anything that would work like that here?? I love your wallhanging - it is incredible.

Sandy that quilting is exquisite. The quilt is stunning, but that quilting ... ... Oh boy! Oh, have to go back - forgot to look at the eight corners >g< Well done indeed.

By the way, you won't have to move the hanging sleeve: from a piece of the backing fabric, make a 'facing' the exact shape and size of the top piece (it will be a symmetrical trapezium). Catch it down to the backing on the three shorter sides (quite tightly). Turn the long side under and hem it, but leave it open. Insert a piece of card (or anything fairly rigid) - again cut exactly to size and shape - to the 'pocket'. That should cure it.

If you move the hanging sleeve up, the sides would begin to curve forward I fear.

Oh my that's lovely.

Have you thought about using some acid free foam core to support the top rather than moving the sleeve so the quilt doesn't rip due to the weight.

Thanks, Pat! :D I wish I'd read your idea before I redid the hanging sleeve -- it wold have been a better "fix". Oh well. :S I do have a second sleeve about halfway down the quilt, and I'll put a long rod in that to keep the sides from curving in.

Polly, never fear -- that rod isn't what I'm going to use. I just put it up quickly to get a photo. :) I do have a second sleeve already in place at the widest part to keep the sides from curving in, so I should pass muster. ;)
