I posted in another thread a day or two ago that I'd finished a quilt I've been working on since January. I took a class from Bethany Reynolds called Circular Logic and had lots of fun doing it. I finished piecing the quilt top fairly quickly, but then the quilt languished while I tried to decide on a quilting pattern. But it's finally done, and I've posted a couple of photos at .

Sandy, that's really beautiful. How are the circles made? . In message , Sandy writes

That's not a quilt I would be tempted to try . . . but if I did, I would want * you * to choose the fabric. Wow. That is magnificient. Dancing for you, Sandy. Polly

Thanks, Estelle! Bethany's method is pretty forgiving. This isn't the "old" stack-n-whack -- it's a variation where two different "stacks" are used for each circle. That means that nothing has to match exactly. ;)

I won't ship it, Pat. You *might* be able to sneak it out of my house if you came here, though. ;)

I love the colors. I don't think I'm ready for circles. I can barely do squares and rectangles, lol.

Thanks, Pat! :) The layers of fabric are stacked up, just as in the original stack-n-whack that Bethany published some years ago, and the wedge shapes are cut out. Then two sets of wedges are alternated in the circle, and a small circle is appliqueed over the center to hide the resulting hole. The large circle is then appliqueed to a background. Is that any clearer than mud? Bethany has a book called _Magic Quilts by the Slice_ that has similar ideas in it, though not this identical one.

Thanks, Susan. :) I think a dark background really makes colors sparkle.

Thanks, Kathyl. :) I have to say, though, that I had limited time to get my supplies together for the class, so I chickened out and bought her fabrics. If I'd known how large her quilt was, though, I'd have tried to find time to get my own fabrics so as to make a smaller version. The fabrics in the "kit" had such a large print that it was impossible to make smaller circles.

I'm embarrassed to admit, Polly, that I didn't choose the fabrics! I ran out of time to do so, and I ended up ordering the fabrics from Bethany instead. But they really are fun fabrics! :)

Thanks! :) These were really easy, though, Sherry.

Maybe you need to "see" it done to pick out your own fabrics for the next one. I think yours works wonderfully though even if it was her fabric selection...you made it your own by changing the circle layout.

Thanks Sandy. I wasn't absolutely sure that it was wedges. . In message , Sandy writes

? Sandy, WOW!

The quilt is wonderful. How did you do the bright blue with the white dot shown in the detail?

I'm ordering the book right away and may be posting several questions after I read it.
