Boca Jan comes in first!

The first entry in the Ugly cheer has come in from Boca Jan. Well, she's next door in Florida so that's no fair - but you would laugh if you could see this one. I've realized that we all have different ideas of what is ugly and some think there's no such thing. But . . . can you imagine Jacobean on Sock Monkey? This one is to cry for. Polly

OMG! As soon as you described it I knew -- I have this fabric. I have 4 yards of this fabric. No kidding. And it is uglier than all get out. I forgot all about because it's packed away in the bottom of the sauna where go the things I never intend to put into a quilt. It is so .... well, ugly. And the huge paisley is huge. And the background is so unrelentingly sock monkey. I would not have thought of that, but it is. I love paisley, but this one is even beyond me. Although I've had some fun cutting the individual paislies out of the background and putting them on other things. But if you want more ... think backing or border, let me know. I'm going now to scan in and post on my flickr.com site:

Give me about 10 mins from now (7:09 p.m. PST) and it will be up. We'll see if it's the same. And if not, you folks can just take in the view.

The big paisley is lovely, the background is.....ummmm......not well-chosen. What fabric manufacturer would let that one get out of the R&D room? To me, it looked like a jeweled brooch lying on a pile of something unspeakable.

Plus it appears the paisleys are lined up in a row! There seemed to be a big space of that yucky background from side to side with another paisley right under it. Too weird! KJ

Now, now, now! The first thing I thought of when I saw your fabric was - "ooooh, 'twould maybe look good if you layered repeats with the paisley in the center & fussy-cut it and made a Stack'n'whack set of blocks....." But, you're right - don't think I could use the piece as a whole!

Gee, and I thought mine was pretty ugly (went out in today's mail, btw). Hmmmm. Very curious about Boca Jan's contribution, and maybe a little scared! LOL!

Nay, Michelle. Jan's was not scary. But in the words of our friend Spock, "Not logical". In an earlier life, I enjoyed crewel embroidery and did a little of the Jacobean. Never, ever. Not even once did it cross my mind to put it on Sock Monkey. The charm and innocence of the Sock Monkey always makes me smile but this is the first time I've seen him with such a ridiculous partner.
