cutting mat on plywood (SQ episode 2/28/2008)

Anita: A quilting friend uses a clip board that has a storage area. It is not bulky, but some sewing supplies and materials fit nicely. You might try cutting a mat to the size you want. Let us know what you do. It is always helpful to learn how other quilters resolve storage and travel situations.

There is a nifty little lap desk, called SmartLap, that I got at Office Max. It was recommended by Linda Franz as a handwork travel desk. The legs fold in and there is a built in handle. about briefcase size all together. Plenty of room in in for stuff too.

Thanks, Pat! I'm looking for the *perfect* portable quilting station for use in the car while I'm waiting for the kids' therapy.

I've used a Joann's sewing case, the Omnigrid traveler, and now a laptop bag. The Omnigrid traveler was my favourite, but it had no room to hold big projects, like an almost done pieced top. Hence the laptop bag, which is far from ideal (no place to put the pincushion, scissors are in the pen pocket, everything has to be done w/ the bag standing up because it's a laptop bag...).

It's a work in progress, so to speak.

Cool, I'll check this out. I had thought of a clipboard with storage, but have not seen anything like a "table"...

When you design the perfect portable quilting station and put it on the market, be sure to allow a discount for purchasers who use the secret code "rec.crafts.textiles.quilting".

You might also consider writing compendiums.

I had a great one that I used for my handsewing. I could walk into a conference with it under my arm - then hide right up back and stitch rofl

Seriously - it made a really good sewing kit.
