dresden plate help

I pulled out a dresden plate ufo that needs finished. I have the blocks all together in a layout that looks similar to this:

corners only have blocks squared not on point like the photo above. I remember why I put the whole thing away unfinished years ago.The center section has 'grown' about an inch wider both ways than theends. I am probably not going to tear it apart and redo it. I am wondering if I were to do some trapunto or just heavy quilting in theinside border would it come up enough to look decent? I don't have borders on it yet. It looks like I was going to work to the outer edgedimension for those. There are 2 3" borders and then a sort of ice cream cone border on the very outer edge. This is a recreation of an old 30's quilt that is literally falling apart. It was found on the floor of a garage in a dirty heap of a sad state. Should I just put the UFO back in the closet or just keep plugging away and work with it as is? TAria

Did you see what I did with mine? I was able to help the inside a bit when I put the center on. I love the pattern and if you have any questions you can write me at snipsnstitches address below.

Does your center have a plain border like the yellow around the basket block in the picture? If it does I'd trim the border so the center fits the adjoining row of blocks properly. If it makes you nervous to trim the border by a whole inch that try trimming the center block 1/2 inch and trim the border the other 1/2 inch. Debra in VA See my quilts at

You're getting great suggestions so I'll just be the cheering squad. That is such a wonderful quilt; I love it. I want it. On the other hand, nevermind cheering, . . . I'll suggest that it can't be done. Your only choice is to send it to me. What a beauty. Polly
