Just simple crochet. Start out with chain 2, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, *chain 1, turn each row.

So from what I know that you know, you can easily do this. And yes, I still have started a diamond over cause I didn't get the beginning to look 'right' after all that practice: )

You lost me after chain 2....that's as far as I ever got with my crochet lessons. The rest might as well be in Mandarin Chinese for all I can decipher. But it certainly is a beautiful afghan. HMMMMM maybe the directions are in Afghani instead of Mandarin. Still Greek to me! ;-)

Lovely! Where did you find that fabric, in the middle of the plane quilt, which is planes flying on a dark sunset background? I love that.

Hope you don't mind, but I saved the afghan idea as well. I have a friend who has a basement full of yarn, and this would be a great project for her. I crochet, but would rather quilt!

Go online to a crochet site that has pix...even one that shows you stitch by stitch how to. See if that helps any. Maybe you need what the abbrv meaning and that would help. Then write each word out--that's how I learned. Taught myself whilst moving from one side of the country to the other. Remember Joe telling me that he would have tossed it long ago when we were driving across Nebraska

Check with you library and see if they have a "Beginning Crochet' video. I have found some on-line sites that show pix by pix, if that is easier for you to follow. Course you could always come here and give us 2 or 3 days...that way I wouldn't feel rushed to show you at least the basic stitches. I can show you the 'hand method' so you 'get it' before introducing the crochet hook. taught a class of K's and they loved making a chain. Even the boys liked the idea of it.

Have to fess up... when we were travelling I got 'itchy fingers' I was sooooooo glad I took a lil bit to work on. Did it on the way home. Discovered I can't 'read' whilst riding anymore. Even hard to read the map-so Mr Joe bought a lighted magnifying glass--that helped a bit but still my eyes tired quickly, then he got the BIG spiral bound map at 25% off--that was ok to read)

"itchy fingers", eh? I've been crocheting tote bags, again; something to take along, work on in silence, in the car, in a meeting ("what the h#ll is she doing!?!!"), easier to drag around than a quilt project. ;-) The tote bags are done w/out a pattern (chain this many, join, double crochet in the circle, turn, sc, turn, dc, turn... until desired size or you're sick of it) and are kind of ugly (leftover yarn, nothing "matches" if possible), and very handy.

Glad y'all got home okay, B-fly. While you were gone, we decided to leave your stash alone, this time. No guarantees for the future, tho'. I scored a major goody to re-affirm that I AM the Queen of Beggars. ;-D

The Star Afghan is at the point that it's too 'big' to haul around. I do have a crochet project that I started when one of my friends learned she would be a Mommy. It's of 2" squares that make a 'scene'....can't remember off hand if it was a circus car w/ animals or a train. Baby is now a daddy (30+) for the 3rd time (boy, this time) so maybe I'll drag that out and work on it the next trip. Gotta see if the pattern is still with it. Boy howdy, that has been cross country many times over :)

Didn't take any sewing, but I did get a coupla yards of fabric.

Thanks for not trying to do a raid--DS wouldn't be too happy if you got into HIS stash--he might ask you to make dinner for him tho----hint hint hint

Yep, I gotta do that one day soon! Of course now is definitely not the weeknd for that. Today it was 80, tomorrow should be 5 degrees warmer. There is a knitter/crochet/ looming group meeting tomorrw that I may go to, if my energy is up for it. I am still dealing with this nasty crud from 3 weeks ago - it's down to the cough now.

It took a few years to collect the diff fabrics. Seems like they came out in spurts for awhile and now its so much easier to find them year round
