FYI Squaring up Wide Backings

My DSIL has started working on the quilt top that I sent to her late last month. She was so kind as to get some backing locally so that I would not have to pay postage to send it to her. She got some wide muslin for the backing and she needed to square it up prior to using it. Last Thursday (2/11), she posted some info on how to accomplish that on her blog at:

Howdy!

? She had that many problems w/ the wide backing?

I wash the wide backings just like all other fabric, throw it in the dryer, iron it, layer it into a sandwich. Pin baste. Then it gets handquilted. Squaring? No. Off grain? I haven't noticed that. Trimming? Only after the quilt is quilted.

Nice of your DSIL to go to all that fabric manipulating for you; cute embroidery on your quilt top.

Cheers!

She is quilting it on her longarm machine. When I've had that done locally by two other longarm quilters, I was also told that the backing needed to be squared up. I forgot one time (I was very tired) and it was made very plain to me :-).
