happy dancing at last

Just finished sewing the binding on this year's Friendship Quilt (no photo yet -need some helpers to hold it for me). It was such a bear, queen-size and Heavy. There were truly moments when I thought this would be the last one I ever did, but I caught myself planning the next one on the final stretch of quilting this morning!

Off to bake some cupcakes and drink a beer or 2.

I'll have a beer with you, Roberta but instead of cupcakes, how about some boiled peanuts? If we're going to celebrate, let's get decadent. Happy dancing with you. Polly

Didn't intend to have them together -the cupcakes were for a bake sale this morning. With the beer last night, I had cheese crackers :-) Roberta in D

So when are you all (hic) coming over? Roberta in D, where the weather has gone peculiar and some of the beer gardens opened for outdoor business

Good for you!!

I can't imagine doing a Queen-size. That'd drive me to cupcakes and beer, too.

Well, you may have a point there, Pat! Guess I could quit worrying about the carb count for a little while. ;-)

So what is your favorite beer, Roberta? Beer gardens sound lovely, but I am unfamiliar with the concept. Care to share? :-)

People in Munich love their beer, and a beer garden is probably the nicest way to enjoy a drink. Picture old chestnut trees (very important for shade and atmosphere), rows of plain wooden tables, stands selling picnic-type food as well as several varieties of beer. The larger establishments often have live music evenings and weekends. A very egalitarian and convivial place. Whole families come, because you can bring your own food if you want and there are usually play areas for children. At lunchtime in the city gardens, you can see office workers relaxing with a beer. Munich knows how to live in the moment.

Personal favorites: I have learned to love the Munich-style "weissbeer", a top-fermented variety made with malted wheat. Also like the "Märzen", a strong dark beer brewed in March and allowed to age until the Oktoberfest. Roberta in D, also like wine

Now you've done it! Weissbeer, my favorite. Here's why:

it is light and fruity and goes with everything. Learned to love it in Munich (dinner at "the castle") and canfind it at the liquor store near the German Grocery Store up inSouthlake (where they have great Lebkuchen).Too bad about this ice storm; you've got me craving, now. Roberta,

You have painted a lovely picture. Wonderful! What a cool concept. :-)

I hate to say it, Michelle, but Miller Lite isn't even in the picture! People who love beer kind of sneer at most American big-label beers--an Aussie acquaintance used to say that American beer is like making love in a canoe--and I can't continue the quote on this genteel newsgroup.
