Harley-Davidson Quilt Block

Hi again all from Nev & Carol d/under.

Carol speaking here I'm emerging from lurkdom to request some pointers for making a Quilt for my 38yr old (semi) "Redneck" son, who has a Harley-Davidson, (which he loves), but not a member of a Biker's club.

I'm thinking some Jungle-Green/camouflage blocks as the main background, with maybe some Harley-Davidson blocks plus some Jim Beam ones interspersed. The design is floating around in my head ATM, plus the structure and layout is not final.

Any pointers anyone?

TIA Carol

How about using the H-D and J-B blocks as the center of square-in-a-square blocks, with the camouflage fabric as the outer triangles? I don't know what's floating around in your head, so this is all that occurs to me at the moment. ;) Do let us see a pic when you get it going! :)

Hi Carol, I just finished making the top for my soon to be grandson. My DD and DSIL love motorcycles and I made the whole top with animals on bikes. My DD loves frogs too. The name of the quilt will be "Frogs on Hogs". Photo to be up soon. I kept it simple and made 6" squares for a sort of "I Spy" look. The back will have a print of wild pigs on Harleys' with a border around it.

Other fabric you can use are "flames" and "helmets and boots". Look at Ebay to see what's out there. I got alot of mine on there. HTH,

How about getting a pair of motorcycle gloves and cut them so you could applique them onto a block.

There is a fabric that has biker babes and motorcycles on it. Not sure if they were Harleys or not, but it is really cool looking fabric. It might be an Alexander Henry fabric, one of the Nicole's prints IIRC. It is a really large scale print. Debra in VA See my quilts at

There is also Betty Boop Harley Fabric as well as "Pinup" bikerr babes. Lots of possibilities.

Hi Carol,

When I make my Harley quilt, it will be partly from the Harley T-shirts that I have "earned" riding my own bike or on the back of somebody's else's bike. I bought a Harley nightshirt on sale -- it's cotton and has the Harley insignia all over it.

So, my suggestion is to go to the nearest Harley shop and see what kind of clothing they have. Buy some and cut it up!

I guess they call Harleys HOGS so I would have a pig themed fabric somewhere......backing or something. We have a Harley and OCC near me. Pami
