HMS Daring complete with wake

Here it is in all its glory awaiting stretching:

I have to say the wake is my personal, most disliked part of the quilt. Done with muslin and never to be touched again until stretched in a week or so.

Ed, it's fantastic! And I do like the way you did the wake -- shredding the muslin was inspired. :)

It turned out beautifully, Eddie. It is extremely atmospheric. I often feel like you seem to, after I try something new to me. You'll get to like it I'm sure - it really does add something. Congratulations on the quilt. It's going to knock their socks off! . In message , ed writes

Damn! That's FANTASTIC!!! I enlarged it to 400% (lower right hand corner on IE) to get a close look and I think your wake is amazing! You really did a fantastic job on this one! BTW The last time you showed us this project, I spent about 4 hrs. searching for that water fabric of yours. I still want some. The way the shadings radiate out from the ship are sooooooo perfect. You really did an amazing job on this one. Kudos!

Piggybacking, because I either didn't get the original message or I just spaced it off, but I just have to say this is absolutely wonderful! WOW! Congrats on a job well done Eddie.

Thank you Patti!

One of our Quilting ladies has asked me to have a stand of my own in our Selsey, Sussex Quilt show this August to show a few diving pics and my Red Sea Quilt. It is supposed to attract blokes to the quilt show. However I do not wish to detract attention from all the wonderful efforts of the ladies in the group in the forlorn hope that a few extra guys may be interested enough to come and view.

Royal Navy 1958-92. Retires happy! Joins Academia - Retires. Gets nostalgic in older age about previous RN service. Husband of very keen quilter. Husband a scuba diver - does quilt of Red Sea diving - swears it is his one and only. Sees HMS Daring being launched. Served many years before in a Daring Class - now scrapped! Thinks I can do that quilt and regrets it almost immediately ;-)).

Many months later after his first effort was consigned to the depths current effort is in the final stages prior to stretching and quilting to enable the quilt to be shown in the bi-annual Selsey, Sussex, UK Quilt show here during August 2008.

Eddie: Go ahead and show your quilts, but ask they be included in the group exhibit. Unless the "ladies" make awful quilts, I don't think a few extra quilts will take attention from them. I am sure the show visitors will be too busy looking at the entire exhibit to make a huge deal out of a few. JMO.

Eddie: That is absolutely fantastic! What is stretching? Do you put it on stretchers just like an art canvas, instead of layering and quilting? I live near a premier shipbuilding city, and the outstanding Mariner's Museum in Newport News, Virginia. Your quilt would not be out of place in the museum's exhibit space.
