I'm back -- and pooped! (a lengthy tome)

I'm home from quilt camp with two begun-but-unfinished projects to keep me busy for some time. I even had an "adventure"! On the way to Flagstaff, my car suddenly decided that 5mph on the highway was as much as could be expected -- and we were on a downslope with semis racing past us, which made me wonder what it would take for one to race *over* us ("us" being the car and me). I pulled over to the shoulder and contemplated calling 911, but finally decided to call DH instead. He remembered that he had a childhood friend who now lives close to where I was (in the middle of a looooong stretch of nothing but pine trees -- very pretty and smelling lovely, but ... ). Said friend came to my rescue, arriving within just a few minutes and calling a tow truck, then taking me to his home where I renewed acquaintance with his DW. I also met his two horses -- er, *dogs*: a St. Bernard and a Great Dane, both of whom inspected and then accepted me on condition that I pet them. I do love dogs, so I was more than willing to do that. ;)The friend's DW is a newbie quilter, so I admired her "stuff" and had the tour of their home, which is lovely. Then DH's friend took me to Flagstaff, where he has a part-time job to keep him busy in his retirement. I was duly delivered to my hotel, where I met up with my quilting buddy, who also drove me *back* to where my car had been towed (30 miles each way) when it was time to pick it up after a diagnosis of "nothing wrong". :S Oh well.I had a class with Martha Nordstrand on the Great Screwdriver Caper, which is a method of preparing appliqué motifs for placing on a background, and I think it has many advantages. :) She demoed her hand appliqué stitch, but we never did have time to actually practice it, so I'll be on my own for that.Then I had a two-day class with Rose Hughes, who taught a Dream Landscape class, which uses a method of raw-edge appliqué. This was even more of a stretch than the other class, since I usually don't want to do...

Thanks, Taria. :) The raven gal (Rose Hughes) is awfully nice and quite funny (when the cactus quilt is finished I'll tell you what its name is and how it got it ), but I'm a bit doubtful about the technique, too. ;)
