Last Chance '07 RCTQAnnual Quilting Week!

I'm using my week to practice my pp. It still needs a lot of practice. I can't tell you how many times I sewed the piece and found out I put it on upside down, backwards, sideways. ACK! When will I ever get a handle on this!

I've felt like Jezebel all week. Lest you only remember her as a siren, in the end they threw her off a balcony and the dogs fought over her broken body. If memory serves, they ate everything but the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet. It has seemed like there have been things fighting over my every minute all Annual Quilting Week long. Pity Party refreshments will not be required, I'm thinking I might get caught up soon. Polly

After a long sewing drought, I pieced together a bargello/trip around the world top from a kit and machine quilted a small class sample from a Vikki Pignatelli class. Thanks for the push! KJ

I have sewn together 5 charity baby quilt tops. I feel THAT is an accomplishment for me!! Might I extend this quilting anomaly after I come back from my 2 weeks in Florida? (Where I WILL visit some fabric shops to add to me fabric stash) PLEASE? Could HRH Pat write a decree to this effect? :-)

I'm on a rag quilt frenzy right now, since the beginning of the year. It's very cold out here in the north pole of New Brunswick, lol, we need warm quilts and we are a big family. I've made 3 already and I'm the only quilter, 5 more to go. Love it. Dixie.

Whoo-hoo! I got back last night from a week away at a training conference. I'm very glad I didn't take my sewing machine. Did take hand work and got my first Moon/Sun Over the Mountain block done. 8" finished. Tried sewing a used dryer sheet to the moon and mountain fabrics, then turned them RSO so there was little fuss with the applique. Worked pretty good - just hope it wasn't beginner's luck trying this new-to- me technique ;). Also got a Celtic block started. Maroon bias on a batik. Took along another exisiting WIP of reverse applique. Just didn't have enough room to work. Had to bring the bedside lamp over to the small workdesk to get proper light - I'm sure the housekeeping was confused when they came in!

It looks like I'm going to have to squeeze in my only quilting time tomorrow. I had to work all week, and am totally wiped out. And tonight we're having company, so having to clean the house, because it didn't get done...cuz I was working all week. You see the cycle? Anyway...I think I'll do some hand quilting on my big ol' Amish double nine patch....and then during the next week, I'll clean my room properly so I can make (in a weekend...) a baby quilt for a friend of mine who is due in three weeks...ooops.

I do, indeed! It doesn't help that I just realized I have a concert in two weeks, so I'm going to have to make that quilt next weekend. Sigh. Jenn in Tacoma

I think I've done well. I made and sent a block and some backing fabric for a Quilt of Valor project, I finished all the rows for my Home Sweet Home quilt (both are projects on Carol Doak's Yahoo Group) and have the borders on it and have it pin-basted ready to tackle the machine quilting.

I finished a "There's are Cats on my Quilt" throw quilt which I made from scraps and used to practice free-motion quilting on my domestic machine.

I delivered a finished dorm quilt for my granddaughter's nineteenth birthday.

While doing this I've managed to attend my exercise classes regularly, get in a session of tennis, and stick to my 1200-calorie food plan which I'll be on for six more pounds! Whew!

I did well this week. Started and finished 2 project Linus blankets, made a purse, bought fabric for SSN swap, made 2 postcards, and spent 4 hours today at the LQS in class practicing stippling. Might just squeeze in a little sewing sunday before the weeks ends.

Jan -- do you use the Add-a-Quarter ruler for paper piecing? Do you have one?

My technique (not sure where I learned it) makes paper piecing really pretty fool-proof!

Write back privately and I can give you very specific step-by-step directions that will really make it easy for you.

Bought a little quilting fabric tonight and found a free quilt pattern at Wally-World. It's the perfect pattern for all those bright novelty fabrics I am drawn to purchase. I've got to up-size the finished quilt, so I've got to do a little math now. I have to decide if I should increase the number of blocks or just make the blocks a little bigger. I'll probably just make the blocks bigger since that would be the fastest way to go.

I have also tried to sew a little on my cat applique block for the BOM this week. So far I've got the cat hemmed, but I won't have a chance to sew it on the background until Monday. Isn't it dreadful how working for a living gets in the way of sewing? Debra in VA See my quilts at

I joined a $10 quilt class... What you do is pay $10 at the start, and each month you bring back a completed block and the next month is free :) Well... except that you have to go to the store and that is never free lol. Anyhow I wwent today and the block I must complete is applique :(:( Sigh. The first thing I ever tried was applique... it was the most horrid thing imaginable lol... I hung on the wall to remind me to never ever do applique again... I guess I will have to go hide it this month lol. So to make my long story short, for quilting week, I did/am doing that project. It not promising to be a good outcome though lol

Yesterday I did some free motion quilting on a lap quilt that's in progress. And worked a bit on the embroidered baby blanket, bib, and burp pad for my friend who is due on the 4th.
