Woohoo! Thanks for reminding us, Pat. I'll be leaving town on the 23rd to go to Phoenix for a machine quilting class and some serious LQS-inspecting with a friend of mine. :D
Sandy, if you get a chance give me a call and maybe we can meet up at at least one of the LQSs. The big Sewing,Quilting and Craft show is down at the fairgrounds that week too..... Thurs, Fri and Sat. I am probably working at the TreadleArt booth.
Pati,> Woohoo! Thanks for reminding us, Pat. I'll be leaving town on the 23rd
Thank you so much for the reminder Pat. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this year. I have a temporary job training poll workers for the upcoming election and will be working all day on Friday and Saturday. I have to spend the rest of the time TRYING to clean my house so that I can get a painter in here and put my house on the market ASAP
I'm even going on a retreat the 2nd weekend of those dates, so I should definitely get a lot done.
I just finished (other than borders) of a queen size top inspired by fabric DH gave me for Christmas, I'm wondering if I can get it done right to the last stitch within a month, I started it on 26th December I think. I'm really pleased with the centre, the inspiration was Pat's mathematical quilts book, but I went a way beyond the design it's based on and gave myself a challenge setting an equilateral triangle into a square, but not at a simple angle! I'll have to take a photo!
I'm planning to quilt the centre (~70inches square) separately from the borders, then add them with a binding strip, which will have to be hand sewn, so I may well machine sew the whole binding!
Good reason to keep slogging away--the stitches come out of my wonky left thumb and wrist tomorrow, though I'll probably still be in a splint then. BUT--I'm well into cutting the pieces for a queen-size quilt for our bed and plan to be madly piecing that week, even if I only have my fingers free on that hand.
Amy, I'm not Pat, but I can answer that. ;) The gathering is right here on RCTQ! We all do something quilty, wherever we might physically be -- home, at a retreat, wherever. That's what makes it so great; we don't have to spend a fortune getting somewhere else.
This idea was started by Annie in England (Dec.2002) as a one day Quilting Day Off and expanded via Pat & WendyFrood (who share a week's birthday) to an entire week that encompassed 2 weekends (these girls know how to party, & how to keep the party going!). In 2003, Pat sent us this reminder:
Pick a day or 2 or the week or the weekend(s) and do something quilty. Add chocolate, send some to Pat to keep her happy, or eat it all before she gets a whiff.
I got a head start on the "doing something quilty". A nearby quilt shop was having 30-40% off everything.....so I think I bought everything!!!! Louise....head to Pine Needles in Cedar Rapids when you get their postcard!!!!
Debbie: Due to your extenuating circumstances, you are excused this year. I do hope you find a moment to at least glance at a quilting book, though! As an Officer of Election in my county, I know the training program is very important. Good luck with the house sale!!
