OH Bother!!!

i had a look/see at the one online. how bout you show us yours now, as it is is ok. i like the use of diff sized tris and diamonds. the stripes on there work cool too. also using the leftovers in the applique is clever and oh so easy to do by machine (tho i only do hand applique, tried machine and mine was awful). is yours for a specific place that it needs to be a square? i like rectangles. cheers, jeanne

Hmm...that's one cool quilt! I think going to the concert and giving yourself time "off" to refresh your perspective is a great idea! Something will occur to you -- probably in the middle of the night, so keep a pad of paper and a pencil by the bed. ;)

That is going to be an awesome quilt. Take your break. It will look better when you come back to it. Like sandy says, inspiration will come.

Hummmmmm...verrrrrry interesting Pat! I CAN see this! After we got home from the concert and watched a movie, I went back in to look at the quilt again. I started laying out more blocks to add to the bottom and it probably wouldn't take much to open up the diagonal seams a couple inches and add the new blocks. But changing the original pattern really appeals to me too! I had hoped to take the inner part of the top to Monday night's guild meeting to show off, but I might have to wait until September's meeting. Stay tuned. I"ll have to sleep on this a bit. I took a picture and will have in my webshots album under "WIP" works in progress...called triangles. clever huh? The bottom row has the blocks I could start adding on to make it square.

I like it the way it is. For what that is worth. Is there a specific place for it that it needs to be square?? I vote for playing with the borders to "square it, and going with it.

KJ, In this case I go with the phrase "Finished is good!" We have all had those projects that in the beginning we were so enthusiastic about and as it wore on we lost the urge. I think that is how "pigs" and UFO's are born. I really try to finish even these "PITA" projects. Just keep repeating finished is good and people will be impressed with the final project because despite all the problems, IT IS FINISHED.

Well, I got a night's rest and figured I really wouldn't have THAT much more to do to add another row. So I did. I'll admit it took my until late in the afternoon to do it, but now it's ready for borders. I'll take it to my guild meeting tonight anyway so I can give some tips to anyone else from the workshop who is working on the same project. I've definitely decided that I have quilt ADD.....instead of starting the borders, I pulled out an novelty applique pattern, traced the pieces, pulled the fabrics, cut it all out and this morning it's all ironed on the background and an embroidery piece made for the center of the bass drum. It will be a "thank you for the flowers" gift to some guys who have a music business. I'll post a picture in my webshot WIP album.

Kathy, I'm really impressed with the quilt, even in it's unfinished state. If it was mine, there would be a massive warp and the triangles would some be different angles and......I'd never take on a project filled with all those lovely diamonds and triangles. The result of your work is beautiful and I hope whoever gets it appreciates the worksmanship and artistry in it.
