OT :(

We had a wind storm last night. I woke to a "brown out". Turned off computers, scanner, etc. This morning my computer wouldn't power up. I've set up my email and newsgroups on DH's computer but don't know how much I can use it. This is not what I needed right now.

This won't solve your immediate problem -- but if the computer was damaged because of the storm and resulting power surge, I would think your homeowner's insurance would cover it. Of course deductibles would likely apply.

There could be many things wrong... many of them really bad. (like no recovery of any data).

But there is a chance that while the computer is dead -- the data is still in there. If you are not able to get it to power up -- you might take it to a computer guru and have them check to see if your memory is intact. If so -- you can transfer everything you had (in the way of pictures, bookmarks, etc) to another machine.

Good luck... I know this is such a pain!

I am hoping after the holidays I can get it into a shop and see what repairs would cost and try to save some data ie pictures. Mary "Kate G." wrote in message news:2sednajnDv5BOuHYnZ2dnUVZ snipped-for-privacy@comcast.com... This won't solve your immediate problem

I do too but we weren't having a lightening storm. And the wind came up in the middle of the night. Most pictures are safe.... I maybe lost one or two. Maybe after the holidays, I can take it to a shop and see what's wrong. I have what I need on this computer except for Yahoo Messenger. Every time I try to d/l it, I get the message that IE can't open the website and it's aborted.
