Even though it is not sewing related this is entirely too good to keep to myself. Besides, a fair few people here have other craft interests, are artists, or buy such things for their children.
So I mentioned before that the easel I ordered for Ash's birthday arrived damaged. It appeared to be shipping damage, looked like the corner of another box slammed into the easel box and put a healthy ding in it. One of the trays was in that spot and it had one of those dents radiating into cracks along the grain. With solid beechwood that must have been one heck of a slam!
So I called Dick Blick where I bought it. They were going to try to special order the tray for me. However Loew-Cornell only ships such parts in lots of 200 or more, so between the two of them they decided to send a new easel. I can keep the damaged one and donate it where I will, the tray can be removed, or repaired by one of the local woodworkers (which we have in abundance here). The new easel arrived today. I had bought the first one on clearence for $60 because they are dscontinuing the white painted ones. Since the second one came directly from the manufacturer and they aren't making the white ones anymore, I got the $130 natural finish model.
I have always been well pleased with both companies. This instance takes my satisfaction with them to new heights.
