Thanks for the reminder, Rita! One of my SILs has reached the 5 year survival mark after being diagnosed with BC-Mets. It had spread to lymph nodes, the base of her spine and a small area of her pelvis. She has recently been taken off her monthly infusions of Herceptin and another med for bone growth due to reduced heart function. We are keeping our fingers crossed for her. Another SIL remains cancer free after her BC was diagnosed at a very early stage.

Keeping you in my thoughts, Pat, that you have continued good health. Hope all went well with your 6th month follow up.

we've not been able to trace anything further back than my grandad either, he has an older sister, now in her 70s, never had breast cancer, he had it in his 50s, his mother also died late, 80s or maybe 90s, also not cancer. We'd done a lot of family history research before this and our family seems to have long life expectancy and the cause of death was never recorded as cancer. Male breast cancer is so rare (200 cases a year in the UK) that it's though to be entirely of genetic cause, the good news is that both my grandad and mum had non agressive forms, he had a mastectomy an no other treatement, that was 15+ years ago and he's still alive, my mum had a lumpectomy, one of the lymph nodes had minute traces of cancerous cells so they recommended chemo, though said her life expectancy would be 20 years without it, she had it and as is usual with lumpectomy she had a course of radiotherapy.

Cheers Anne

Thanks for the good thoughts, DLM. There was a glitch and I had to reschedule. The facility that did the biopsy did not send back all the film! I will pick it up and hand carry it in advance of the appointment this time around! I suggest everyone double check on the correct filing of the film when you go from one medical facility to another.
