OT removing gummy

The tiny preemie shirts underway here really needed hook and loop fasteners. Alcohol and silicone would not remove the gummy from the SM needle so they could be stitched down. Cleaning the needle after every stitch wasn't exactly progress anyway. You may remember the expression I learned last month - Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and make lemonade. That's what I did. I put the gummy little dots between scraps of fabric, steamed them a few seconds with the iron and pulled them away from the fabric while still warm. Ta-dah! The gummy melted onto the fabric. The velcro is not harmed and I can make quick, neat stitches. Remember this for the next time you're cursed with gummies. Polly

Polly, I use permanent fabric glue on the backs of both Velcro pieces. It works very well. I found that stitching down the Velcro mooshs down the gripper things on both sides, so gluing works the best for me. The fusible Velcro is price-y but works well, too. Clever of you to think of melting off the gummies- good on you!

Polly, you are a genius. Good grief, woman. Why aren't we electing you for president???? You figure out more fixes for problems that we all have. And you're articulate. And we like you.

I say POLLY ESTER FOR PRESIDENT!!

I will not be a candidate. If elected, I shall not serve. This is a test. Who said that? An FQ to the first correct response. Polly

Sherman. General, not the boy of Mr. Peabody. ;-P

That was fun. Next question. For an FQ: Who stitched more than a hundred logs onto blocks with an empty bobbin? Polly

"Kathy Applebaum" Sherman. General, not the boy of Mr. Peabody. ;-P

Hi Polly, sounds like you need to supply yourself with 'velcro soft&flexible' sew-in tape. You could buy the 5/8" tape and cut off squares - then round off the corners before sewing down to your preemie shirts. It is available at various internet web sites - including Joann's and jhittles....jennellh

Well, yes, Jennell, that is what I had been doing. Most unfortunately, I bought hundreds of very soft little round dots and imagined they would be wonderful for the preemie things. A wee shirt calls for 5 sets (one set at each side seam and 3 down the front) so I thought this would be a smart economy. Now that I know how to un-gum them, they will be fine. Your method is much faster but I'll probably just have to deal with these for a dozen years or so. Polly

Oh maaannnnn, Taria.... ya outted me! Actually it was 120 log cabin blocks and I ran out of bobbin on #2. It was 118 'last-log-on-each-block' logs that were stitched without bobbin thread at 4 a.m. after sewing since early morning the day before. I believe I should be nominated for The Guinness Book of World Records..... For Dummies! LOL

Oh, you're in good company. I've done several strip sets before I noticed. But it could have been the wine. Yeah, that's it, it was the wine. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Congratulations to Kathy and Taria (and major gratitude to Leslie for teaching us about checking our bobbin level). Now.

The 3rd trivia question:

Our quilters have been on the road and in the sky lately. Who went to Shipshewana? Knoxville? Seoul?

Well, gee, Donna. I think you're right. In fact, I remember when he made that announcement and how surprised we were. Kathy A's already been declared the winner for that one. Can you do the 3rd trivia answer for tonight? There's a FQ ready for you if you can. Polly

Dh (the guy with the history degree) had the answer to your first question as 'some old politician said that years ago'. How is that for a great answer?

I have heard what happens in Shipsewana stays in Shipsewana. It must be a wild place.

Good golly! LOL The guy with the history degree thinks General Sherman was 'some old politician' ? Well, maybe some Generals are politicians. Let's just don't go there. Polly

He was doing several other things when I asked and his degree is European history to be fair ; )

I'll let him go on that. I commented earlier "I NEED a candy bar". He had 3 he picked up this morning and had hidden them for me. This is a guy that doesn't generally buy candy bars. Only has taken me nearly

28 years to train him! I guess I'll keep him. Taria, fat and happy
