Re: Star Muddle - A vote???

Kitty, Here is my opinion: #2 makes the quilt top look like a muddle

- not my choice; #1 is solid and I liked the circle effect it made but #3 is lighter and the circle illusion line is much clearer. The secondary pattern lines in #3 are also more defined. My order of preference is 3-1-2 Jennifer in Ottawa

------ Group: rec.crafts.textiles.quilting Date: Sun, Aug 24, 2003, 3:18am (EDT-3) From: snipped-for-privacy@cox.net (KittyG) I need some opinions here please...don't be shy :) I started a new quilt, Star Circle, and am now putting together the first star block. The diamond segments are not sewn together yet and as I was playing around with them (as one is wont to do at 2:00 am) I found two other combinations that I thought I liked just as much, if not better, and I am now thoroughly muddled (and morning probably will not help that much) so it is decision time here and I need some help deciding please. The photos are at =A0

Yes, I think I like #3 as well- it seems to "pop" more than the others somehow. SueS

Kitty,

I like #1. It seems to "glow" more than the others -- almost like a real star.

I like either 1 or 3, the middle in #2 is too lost in similar values to show up.

Well, so far I'm in the minority! I like #2. The others have the focus in the center of the star, and this one is bigger visually. I like the subtle texture created in the center, with the red and blue, and the white on the outside makes the star shine.

Star1 is speaking to me, but no matter which one you chose, I'll love it. You have my snail?

(Love your other quilts as well....)

Hullo Kitty Replying before I've read anyone else's!! as usual!

I had to choose between 1 and 3. On balance, I think I like 3 best of all, with the rings of colour alternating. . In article , KittyG writes

Boy, I had to look at these again and again! They're all beautiful. :) That said, I think the circle effect is lost in #2 when you see it in the complete layout. Deciding between #1 and #3 is truly difficult, but #3 has my vote by a slim margin.

It would be easier to compare if all three quilts were small on the same page so we could see side by side. I can see 1, then go and see 2 & 3 side by side.

With the background behind the stars being "light" I would not use number 2 for the stars..... the white points won't show as well. Why not alternate 1 and 2? Or will that work, I forgot to count how many stars you have....

I think I want to change my vote! I originally voted for #1. But that was based on looking at the individual blocks. As I thought more about it, I thought, Gee, it'd be nice if I could see several blocks together to see how they look. THEN I read the rest of Kitty's message and saw she'd already done that (I guess I was more tired this morning than I thought!). After looking at the EQ5 quilt pics, I vote for #3. I think the circle is more distinct, and I like the way it flows.

Okay, so take away one vote for #1 and add one for #3. Thanks!

I liked 'em all, Kitty .... .... but I chose SC1, and played around with the border awhile. I couldn't resist the temptation to give it a little more flow. Here's a pic for ya:

Great guns indeed! :) Had to get some practice in paper piecing first and work out how to do it, these blocks are quite demanding in accuracy. Now it's starting to come together, isn't it great when you can make these beautiful things a reality? Don't even ask how I plan to quilt this yet tho....
