Sewing Week Progress

Ok, not a lot of progress but some.... I'm trying desperately to make the deadline for a juried art quilt show. I like my piece a lot, but something has been nagging at me from the beginning and last night I finally couldn't stand it any more. I took off the sashing and now I'm back at square one (sort of a pun, which you will get when I can post the quilt). I won't make the deadline for this one, but the piece will be that much stronger for it and there are more shows down the line that I intend to enter.

I tinkered with my friend's quilt top. It's totally ready, just have to find the time to quilt it. She's going to just howl when she sees it. Really girly and soft and pretty.

I put a fleece backing on a little top that I stitched up -- really just borders on a panel -- to give away. It's really cute and some little one will enjoy it I know.

Ok, that's all. I am looking forward to posting a pic of my art quilt once it's done. Wouldn't make sense to you right now, but it's got lots and lots of birds on it. I still have probably another dozen to cut out. LOL.

Happy sewing to all, Sunny

Oh good. I just went back to see how long our RCTQ Week lasted and it will be observed until the 31st. I just might make it. We avoided a killer of a car wreck last Wednesday. If we'd been in it they would still be looking for us. Mercy. I had twisted to brace Yogi when DH had to brake hard and fast. Every bone and muscle in my old body is still protesting but finally I can stand up and sit down by myself. Lesson learned: I will forever be much more compassionate to every one in pain - even if it's their own fault. The sewing room is absolutely empty and awaits the painting of the ceiling. We've made a happy little quilting area in the living room. Lesson learned: Being organized wasn't all that great anyway. I rather like having a wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling mess. I'm with Ginger. It is good to be on this side of the grass. Polly

So glad you all were okay and came out of it with "just" some pain, but nothing was broken or punctured or anything like that. Take care of yourself - rest and let your body heal. And we're happy you're still on this side of the grass too!

We're having a Sewing Week? I thought every week is a SEWING WEEK!

I finished a clothesline bag and a mini twist bag, plus put borders on a Valentine panel--all for store samples. I picked up a quilted project and wil put the binding on today. It's going to a silent auction, benefiting a school in San Francisco. (I agreed to do this for a friend of my DIL in California.) I made a sample of a Japanese knot bag from an internet pattern. Interesting, but a bit too small to be used as a wristlet bag, at least for me.

Speaking of that auction quilt, I am rather proud of myself. While I was making the quilt with the Asian inspired fabrics made into large clamshells, I knew that every block cut produced a large, irregular scrap of fabric. So everytime I cut a block, I used by 3.5"x3.5" ruler to cut out squares from the scrap. So when I had the need for an anonymous quilt, I had a whole box of little squares, coordinated and ready to sew. I'll post a picture later when the binding is on. I'm happy that I avoided having a bin of odd-shaped and probably un- used scraps! Usually not that organized!

And in the non-sewing category, I finished a pair of knitted socks last night. A Valentine gift for my bestest friend.

On to better, though not always bigger, things. joan p.s. In the organization discussion, I put up a set of wire cubbies to store yarn. Yes, my yarn stash is attempting to rival my fabric stash.

In the last week or two, I've made three, very easy crib quilts, though still have to sew the binding down in back. Also quilted my "Eye of the Piper" wall hanging and worked on my Adoration applique project. But too many other things still get in the way of quilting. The crib quilts are Super-sized Nine Patches . I did start with more than a yard of each fabric & cut my pieces bigger, so my quilts are bigger than the pattern indicates. Two will go to new babies of a niece and a nephew; the third will be given to charity.

Wow! I'm so glad you weren't hurt any worse than some aches and pains! Something like makes you realize just how many places a body CAN ache! Who knew? Keep up the Tylenol for a few days....a constant blood level will help keep the pain down as you heal. Take care....painting can wait.

Can you remember on the Carol Burnett Show when Tim Conway could play a really old man? To stand up from a sitting position, I have to sort of rock back and forth and build up momentum to lunge to my feet. I could teach old Tim some new moves. And since I can not bend over, you should just see me unload the dishwasher with my toes. (Just kidding.) Polly

Oh Polly. Thank god for good brakes and a driver that could use them fast and hard. This message scared me. Take care and rest that bit longer than you think. . In message , Polly Esther writes

Like she said REST and when you think you WANT to wash/mop that kitchen floor.wait one more day. You CAN spot mop by dropping a damp paper towel on the floor and using your foot to push it around..then use your toes to pick it up and toss it. Ask me how I know.

Butterfly (Still NOT allowed to load the bottom rack of the dishwasher, but I can close the door by using my foot)

Kathyl, thanks so much for including Polly's message in yours! I'd missed it completely. :(

Polly, take care of yourself and let your muscles and bones decide how long they need for recuperation. I'm *so* glad you're not hurt any worse than that! And of course I'm also glad that your DH and Yogi are also in one piece.

Car wrecks are such a pain, I know I have been in enough of them. I am so happy noone was injured.

As soon as DH leaves for work I am heading upstairs and try to locate something to work on. I have been up there a couple of times and looks like my grandgirls had gone up there and had a grand ol time. I know WHAT I want to work on it is just finding all the important stuff, like the fabric, rotary cutter, rulers etc. The only thing I DO KNOW where it is is my sewing machine.

Tell me about it! With all our snow & cold weather this winter, we have lots of icy, snow-packed streets. DH had a fender bender last week -- not his fault and no personal injuries, thank goodness, but the car doesn't look too good. We've spent a lot of time today running around for insurance claim, getting estimates, etc. And when it goes into the shop, we'll be without it for about a week, though fortunately, the body shop will have a loaner for us.

Polly, for muscle pain, naprosyn (brand name Alleve) is usually much better than tylenol. I know these things, lol. I take tylenol for a headache but Alleve is what I take for bone or muscle pain. Alleve has more anti-inflammatory action. My dr. has told me I can take aspirin with either tylenol or Alleve. They're different beasts. But do NOT mix Alleve with tylenol.

And at the end of the day, a soothing cup of green Jasmine tea with a dollop of honey and two fingers of Jack Daniels. Ahhhhh, soothes the bones like nothing else.

I have to empty a refrigerator and the pantry floor tomorrow - don't reckon 'rest' is going to be part of the deal. Not exactly sure how I'm going to do it but it there will be a way. Polly

"Butterflywings" Like she said REST and when you think you WANT to wash/mop that kitchen

That's Naproxen. You have to be careful taking that and some prescription drugs. Bad combos. A friends DH lost half of his blood volume because of incompatibilities.

Well, yes, Mary. There's that. I am much more fearful of drugs than I am car wrecks. Polly
