Still on the Minkee quest

Last week I asked for opinions about Minkee/minky etc. and everybody was mighty quiet. I had to do the shopping all alone. Alas. Woe was me. Here's the best find.

has about 40 varieties with a total of 381 different minky fabrics. First to try will be the microtech that's double sided. All the prices seemed to be better than or at least as good as any other place. Not affiliated but always willing. Polly

Minkee/Minky scares me. :-) One time I was in Walmart and a lady was having some (probably very generic) Minkee cut. That stuff just plain exploded. I was standing a good three feet away and little Minky threads were all over me. Is this normal?

Didn't get the post! And I get yours....or so I thought. I'm not even getting 60 a day now.

I could have replied on how LINTY that stuff it. I used it once by special request. won't/wouldn't use it again. Far too messy.

LOL. Yes, Sherry. You can expect an explosion. Having the vacuum cleaner at hand before you cut Minkee is a good idea. It reminds me of my teddybear making days. Those adventures were right hairy too. It's worth it though; wonderful for chemo patients and teething babies. I have a Minkee robe that encourages me to get out of bed on chilly mornings. Not saying I always do. Polly

Oh yes! One LQS that I visit announces "Minky Shower" very loudly whenever they have to cut it. Saves having customers sneezing all over the store :-)

I can't think of anything lovelier and softer than a quilt with Minkee backing. God bless you for the extra effort involved in using it.

Awww, Sherry. It's not that big a deal. Our precious Erma Bombeck always recommended keeping the vacuum cleaner out in the middle of the living room floor anyway. It makes drop-in company assume you were busy cleaning. (Instead of lying on the couch eating 4 chocolate-covered doughnuts and watching an exercise show on tv.) Works for me. Polly

Thanks for the link Polly, I've never seen so many varieties of Minky before! Now for some careful calculations as orders for the UK over £18 mean very high customs duty and post office charges.

You are so welcome, Carrie. Glad you enjoyed seeing all that was available. Wow, huh? While you are doing careful calculations - it's worth the trouble to notice what is double-sided and what is not. A pillowcase for someone doing chemo doesn't need to be double-sided. OTOH, a double-sided Minkee for a baby blanket saves a heap of effort. I just can't wait to see what the microtech double-sided is. I'll report back. Polly
