WIP house quilt

Took a bit of tweaking with my alleged 1/4" foot but I've pieced together some of the inner portions of blocks for my house quilt. This is my very first shot at all this so be gentle with me...

Do you think I'll have it done before 7th September? I have people coming who will need its warmth by then... I work 3 days a week. :(

The blocks are exquisite and your choice for sashing just perfect. If you're open for a mild suggestion, I think you might better set your SM to more stitches per inch than usual. That cross stitch fabric is rather willful and inclined to ravel if you give it the least little chance. Go for it, it's going to be such a beauty. Polly

They're gorgeous, Fay! :) You have over a month -- you *can* do it!

I'd just love to adjust the number of stitches on my SM, but that is the smallest of the two stitch length options it has! I have used iron-on interfacing to stabilise the aida fabric to aviod fraying.

Thanks,

Fay

That ought to do it, Fay. Carry on. Polly

It looks wonderful Fay. The sashing colours really enhance the houses. You might need to burn the midnight oil a bit towards the end, but I would think you could finish in that time. . In message , Fey writes

It's lovely Few! and looking at the speed with which you embroidered the houses I'm sure you can do it!

question: have you already cut all the fabric? if you have or not there are ways of speeding up the sewing bit ;-)

No I haven't quite cut out the fabrics, but I do know about speed piecing. Got a fair bit done today while DH is away on business. Now my back hurts and my eyes are aching.

thanks for your trust in my abilities!

good :-) I didn't have a clue when I first started - I cut everything out with scissors and templates and sewed in drawn lines hence the question :-)

take frequent breaks - go from one thing to another - sew a bit press a bit then sew some more - it's a back saver!

I have made several {{{HUGS}}} that have incorporated needlework done on both aida and even weave. Polly is right about it raveling. I would also like to add that the stuff is "wonky" as all get out and doesn't like to stay square. I have **always** added a backing of iron on interfacing to my needlework blocks to keep it more stable. I don't know if it's too late for you to do this. If not, then iron on the backing BEFORE you cut the blocks to size and square them up. Once the quilt top is together, I usually outline quilt around the needlework design and then either hand tie or meander quilt as needed over the rest of the block. The needlework is lovely and the block design looks great :-))). I'm curious to know how large the house designs are and how large a quilt this will be when finished? I'm sure you will get the quilt finished in plenty of time for your guests. Keep us posted, OK? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

The combo will be stunning. I have only tried to combine embroidery from my machine with quilting once and I really like the result. Keep on going! Linda in Tx
