wrapping mummies or dressing ghosts

Please tell me again. I promise to write it down and keep it in my 'must be remembered' book. Last year, I wanted some fine white cotton fabric for a special red hearts on white crib quilt. Some of you recommended Kona white fabric. It was just wonderful and the quilt is still gorgeous all though it has led a tough life. I only remember part of that discussion. It seems that there's Kona Bay and Kona Hoffman and perhaps others. Yesterday I received some Kona white that would be unacceptable to wrap a mummy or costume a very feeble ghost. Last year's Kona was silky and closely woven. Please help me remember which one it is. I do thank you kindly. Polly

I haven't heard of a Kona Hoffman - Hoffman's doesn't "do" solids just batiks and their prints so it must be Kona Bay

An excellent source of white fabric for quilting with or without dyeing is the white cotton sold for drapery lining. It's inexpensive and can be really nice stuff. Read the labels carefully and feel the fabric because a lot of different fiber mixtures are used for the purpose.

It's about $6-8 a yard around here in fabric stores, or you can go to places that specialize in drapery or to fabric clearance stores where it can be even cheaper. I once got 5 yds 60" wide for $3 total! Pure cotton, nice texture, and takes up dye beautifully.

Polly, Are you looking for Kona Cotton? It is made by Robert Kaufman. Pretty confusing but that's the stuff. Hancock's of Paducah has it:

It is sort of coures IMO though. HTH, TAria

Kaufman produces Kona cotton solids. Nice but not real fine, fairly large yarns used, what some people call a "thick" fabric. Kona Bay produces very fine, high quality fabric. They specialize in Oriental type prints and a line of silky, very nice, drapey solids. What you want is the Kona Bay. I have also seen some wonderful 200 count white muslins that are nice, but not as silky as the Kona Bay.

Thank you all. I think Pati's remembering the one I want. Kona Bay. I have made a note to self. Self doesn't remember heaps but she reads just real good. Polly

I have had a problem finding Kona Bay white fabric. Can anybody tell me a good place online to order it?
