Altered Box

I decided to alter a small cigar box. With my promotion came allot of unexpected worries. I worry about allot of the people we make medical runs on and I find myself laying awake at night wondering how they are doing, did we do everything we could have on those that didn't make it. ( we can't find out any information due to the new privacy laws) I also find myself second guessing myself on the structure fire runs. So I made a worry box. I took the beautiful altered book that April made for me and used it for inspiration. Since most of my worries are from work it is, of course, firefighter in design. I painted the inside red, place an ambulance sticker, a firefighter sticker and 2 small dice. The outside is decopodged with firefighter papers, 3-d embellishments, gold UTEE here and there. On the inside lid is the title of the box (what else but "Worry Box") and what I hope to achieve from writing down my worries and placing them in the box. April thank you so much for the altered book, it was a wonderful source of inspiration. I decided to do this box about 8:30 tongiht and completed it at 11:30pm. I think it turned out pretty good. Though since it's well past my bedtime I may just be delusional! (especially since we were up all night and I've been up since 5 am yesterday morning!) LOL

I'll post pictures tomorrow on my webshot account.

Kenda......I think you did a fabulous job on your Worry Box and I hope it brings you the peace of mind you deserve. You can't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders and not crumble under the pressure. Using this should help you to rid yourself of the coulda, woulda, shoulda thoughts and allow you to realise that you do "the best you can do" in every day and worrying retrospectively won't change a thing.

I also had a look at Nick's accident pictures :( He sure did a job in wrecking his vehicle! Glad he wasn't hurt.....except perhaps for his pride! Hard lesson for him to learn all the same!

Wow I didn't know there were that many flavors, but the kids and love to get the new flavors at Dollartree when the pop up and see if we like them. I think we liked the Orange one the best so far.

Wow, that is just beautiful and useful to boot. I could see you selling worry boxes on ebay that's how nice it is. I hope it brings you comfort. I like that you have the instructions right there on the lid to help remind you how to clear your mind and bring yourself peace.

Lynne

I'm thinking you may have to make a "Sleep" box next.... by the looks in the times on these posts. Art is sometimes like having a baby. Just can't sleep until it's done.

Lynne

Wow! You did a great job on that Kenda. If it is as benficial to you as it is beautiful, you'll never worry again once you place your worries in the box.

Big hugs,

Good for you Kenda! I really love it. You did a great job on it. Not only is it gorgeous, but very useful. I hope it brings you peace of mind, and you stop worrying about it all. You can only do so much! *BIG hugs*

I had NO clue there were that many flavors! LOL That's alot!

Thank you Marilyn. That's the reason for the worry box. I am starting to really feel the pressures of this station and I spend alot of time worrying about the medical patients we run on and second guessing myself. I've never had that problem until now. Maybe it's the very low income area and the kids that really bother me.

Yeah, Nick did a bang up job (no pun intended!) He will be spending lots of time repairing it and he has decided to paint it since it will be off the road until he turns 18. He, my Dad and a couple of DS's friends that like to work on cars are going to work on this truck. It will be very good for him to put alot of time and sweat into it.

Thank you so much M-C, I don't think it would have turned out so nice if I hadn't had the book that April gave me for inspiration.

Wow, thank you so much Lynne. I figured I would need to be reminded from time to time exactly what the worry box is for.

Nah, I go through periods where I don't sleep much and this just happens to be one of those times. I will crash in a week or so and get back to normal then in a few months I will go through the cycle again. (thanks for the insomnia Mom! LOL )

Thank you Deb. I'm sure it will help find the peace of mind I'm looking for.

It looks beautiful Kenda! I hope it helps bring you some peace from your worries... when I can't sleep I get up and go and do some crafts

- it's a good medatitive activity and it calms me down enough that I can go back to sleep in a bit...

WOW!! Looks great. I know exactly what you mean about April's work being an inspiration. I've always wanted to try to alter something like what you did after seeing Dave's book April made him. Now I have yours to challenge me to give it a try. Sandy

It already has Karen! I wrote down my worries, one at a time said a prayer and put them in the box. I felt like a weight had been lifted, went to bed early (even for me) and slept until 7 am (that's very late for me!). I feel sooo much better this morning!

I too get up when I cant sleep and work on some crafts, I find I am more creative when that happens.

I'll bet you would do a wonderful job, you should just jump in a give it a whirl! I have to admit that the first time I tried to alter something I was nervous about messing it up. But that's the wonderful thing about altered art, you can't mess it up! Now when I start an altered project I decide what I want to alter, what "theme" I want it to follow then I take a deep breath and just start in. Sometimes it comes out looking wonderful and sometimes it ends up in the trash! LOL Just go with it Sandy! You can do it!
