Cricut Expression or Xyron Wishblade

Well, my eBay auctions are almost over. I'm hoping I will have almost enough to buy a new machine. So Which one would you all suggest. I see + and - for both.

Cricut. - can take on the go. Which I don't do hardly ever. Can cut up to

12x12. But you have to buy all of the cartridges.

Wishblade. - can use all the fonts off of my computer. Don't have to buy cartridges. I don't have a computer in my scraproom. Just our office. DH thinks I should get this one as I will eventually have a computer in my room. But can't take it.

Does any one have both. Please help me decide which one.

I have never used a wishblade before. I do have the cricut machine and I love it. They are coming up with a USB cord that you will be able to plug the cricut into your computer, not sure of all the details. I have the baby bug (the frist cricut they came out with) I do not nor have I used the Big E (the expression machine the new machine). I guess I'm really not that much of a help.

the only reason to get the big cricut I would say would be a school or something near that. I would get the regular size cricut. you can do big on the regular one.

Also the cricut cartirdges are getting cheaper as they age. some are down to $35 or less in a few places. Some of the girls bring theirs to the crop to use.

the wishblade i know nothing about. someone else might have to help you on that.

We could do a cricut cuts swap for those who have certain cartriges that others don't have!!!. hint hint

I love my wishblade - i'd hate the expense of cricut cartridges

with the wishblade (and some free software) you're only limited by what you learn to do. Do expect a learning curve at first, but it really is the more versatile machine.

I have the Klick-n-kut and it a great deal heftier that the others and it cuts chipboard, fun foam, light metal sheets, fabric, vinyl and thin fabrics.

I love it you should search around and check it out for your self. the newest one is a 9" i think and its called the element (500usd) does the same thing but has a smaller cutting width.

check out yahoo groups and you'll find a lot of people using it and loving it.

please take a moment and browse my gallery.... if you don't see something but would like to just reply with some requests...

What do you need or want i'm sure I can come up with some new designs to fit your needs...

I seen the Klik n Kut on eBay. I had never heard of it before. It is a bit expensive. The price I seen was 600.00. Is that the small one you are talking about.

Are they both same then April. Except for the size? Does the small one have a port for when they are able to get a usb cable to hook to the computer?

it's a bit more involved than that. You can cut fonts or dingbat fonts (you'll learn to pick and chose fonts - some fonts are plain crappy for cutting)

you can learn to use new software (either bought or free versions exist) to weld words together and cut them. (much less annoying to not be glueing letters individually)

you can download shapes other people have made and shared in groups.

you can buy shapes on several websites that feature designers selling shapes. you can buy on ebay

you can learn to trace your own shapes. There are expensive programs that you can buy to automatically trace anythign for you, but as far as I can see, they don't do the best job of it. Learn to trace it yourself (a bit intimidating, but not difficult) and you're much better off.

PLUS: once you learn to trace, you can have any shape you want. With cricut, even if you buy every cartridge (think of the cost!) you're still limited to what their designers liked and included. I've gone through Ellison, Accu-cut, and QuickKuts websites and downloaded the sample pics - I can trace them and use whatever shapes I want.

Thanks so much. You have been very helpful. Sounds like you use your wishblade quite a bit.

If I had to do it all over again I would go with the wishblade. I had high hopes for the Cricut and the promise of good things to come with the usb port but I am not willing to invest another $90 for the Cricut Design Studio when you are still limited to the fonts on your Cricut cartridges. I already have about $600 invested and now I have to buy something else if I want to cut the fonts on my pc.

Get a wishblade and the possibilities are almost unlimited.

the regular cricut does have a port on the back to hook it up to a computer but they said they put that for a later date. the huge one that I saw only does a larger piece of paper. both you have to buy the cartridges for . go to cricut.com and check out the specs. for both. I can't see paying the hhuge amount for the large one if it does the same as the regular one basically.

just my 1 1/2c opinion!...

I have limited space and am happy with my circut machine. I bought it because it was more budget friendly and with the three cartridges I have it is more than enough for me to be happy with.

I was in the market for a wishblade but it is too expensive for me at this time and since I don't have a large storage area for it, I decided against it. I don't mind cutting out the letters that I need or the die cuts on my lunch hour at the precinct. If anything it gets a conversation going. Yes I get teased but more in a jealousy fashion. LOL.

I read on the message boards over at provocraft that they will be unvieling a link to start using the usb port this winter. The only down side with the circuit is that the mat gets "unsticky" quite quickly and blade needs to be replace often if you cut badly.

I'm a vote for the Circut for the budget friendly machine and with the enablers on this board I have no doubt certain cartridges can be found for a steal. However I am up for a swap or such.

One more question on the wishblade: Does it print. Or can you print something off in color on your printer then use the wishblade to cut it out.

Somebody's CHA show preview included the Cricut connect-it-to-your-computer gear and they said it's coming out this year... I wouldn't be surprised to see it roll out for Christmas. :) When they do start selling it, I'll get my Cricut at last!
