Is your 12x12 page really that size?

I've noticed that some of the coloured paper I've bought recently, is not always precisely 12x12. Only when I place them into my album do I realize this. I've centered them on the white cardstock that comes with the page protector, but I'm a bit disappointed as this is not the result I had in mind. :( Has anyone else come across this problem?

Yes, I've never checked, but I wonder if it is certain brands. I've got to the point of measuring every page that I'm wanting to leave whole just to make sure. Sandy

I certainly have had that problem too. Some times I have to find creative ways to make the paper 12X12 with scraps of other paper.

I've had more of a problem with paper that's too big... I was just assuming that all sheets of 12x12 were the same and would fit into my binder. Nope. There is nothing more annoying than making a perfectly arranged layout that goes almost (or right to) the edges of the page and then finding out that it's a quarter inch too wide and tall to fit... after a few disasters I started measuring the sheets against a plain one refill to see if I had to trim them down before I started. ~Karen aka Kajikit Crafts, cats, and chocolate - the three essentials of life

I have also noticed that not all 12x12 paper all the same size. Some are short a few inches others are short drastically.

I have had this problem too. I usually end up centering the smaller paper on an actual 12x12 piece.

I have two identical 12 x 12 albums for my boys. One takes a full sheet of paper in the page protector perfectly, the other one, I have to trim over

1/4 " off the sides for them to fit in the page protectors. I've never measured the paper itself, but found it odd that I had to trim my pages for one album and not the other when they're the exact ones.

I have found it is not only so wth 12x12, but also 8.5x11. I am a regular buyer of the same brands from Creative Express so I think it is in batches. I also noted that Bazzill runs the same way, even in different shades of the same color, but thirs does not vary as much as other brands.

I cannot speak to why this is EXCEPT with the exception of Creative Memories papers (and I AM PARAPHRASING GREATLY). It is their belief and "philosophy" that for true archival quality we should never use a solid printed paper. Their reasoning is that if we do use something in our layout that happens to not be acid free, etc, that those acids can travel from one item to another when they're both connected by the same connecting sheet. And so, they create their printed papers as a slightly different size and the 12x12 measurement is simply an indication that those papers are expressly for use with the 12x12 albums. The stock sheet that comes within the book acts as a buffer and the patterns are then applied to the surface allowing the buffered edges and separations to effectively block all non archival-quality substances from thus traveling from the memorabelia to the sacred photograph. So, that's my understanding from the Creative Memories standpoint on photo mounting paper not actually measuring the size described on the outside of the packaging.

Yes, Judy, This is especialy true if you use CM albums. ( which I do). I always try my pages on the album page ,mark where it ends and cut my page to fit before I do my scrapping. Or I center my pages so there will be enough paper to cut off after I finish. I just love to play with paper! LOL I used to drive my poor Mom crazy with cutting out paper dolls and leaving the scraps everywhere...now I leave them everywhere and just drive my DH crazy LOL

they've adjusted their position lately, however, and are now marketing a paper that they call "Perfect Fit" which is exactly the right size to wallpaper their pages with.

This leads me to a question that I've always wanted to ask, but was afraid it was too stupid.

If you have accidentally used something acidic on a page, will having an acid free page BETWEEN it and the next thing keep the acid from seeping through.

Here's what I mean. I did a page for a newspaper article of interest. I scanned the article in and printed it on acid free paper, but I wanted to store the ACTUAL article in the scrapbook as well. Could I put it BEHIND (as in back -to-back with) my page in the sam protector with the white sheet that came in the protector between them, or do I have to put the article in a COMPLETELY SEPARATE page protector?

I hope that made some sense and I apologize for asking such a stupid question.

I've had a few 12x12 papers that were not true, but my albums are. I usually put the smaller paper on a similar colored paper to use it.
